Bonus Art - Bowser sketches

Before I did the Bower piece last month, I had to do some serious acclimatizing, so I tried some little sketches to get a feel for him. He's so different!

I still like the smaller sketches in here, especially the one of him strutting in the top right.

One thing I changed about him was his feet. I'm pretty sure Bowser is supposed to be plantigrade, but... Idunno, I just really didn't care for it. My big hot pseudo-monsters have to be just right, haha. Going in a more dinosaur-dragon direction was pretty fun.

Bowser was a real challenge for me to find a style to draw the rest of him, though. I didn't want to just copy the original design from the games, but I also didn't want him to be too human, you know? So... alongside doing all the interesting and presentable sketches up there, I also did.... this....

I hope this slow-motion transformation art horrifies you as much as it does me, LOL.

Jokes aside, this was actually REALLY helpful for me. By tracing the original design and then slowly tweaking it more and more towards my style, I was able to figure out what I wanted to keep, and what I could change! I'm proud of myself for thinking to take this kind of approach, even if the results are terrifying.

I don't think I've ever sat and done sketches to get a feel for another style like this, either, but it was very fun and I totally recommend it. I'll try and do it again next time I do some rule 34, rather than just diving in and hoping it works out, haha.

I would like to draw this guy again next year, for sure! His shell looks super fun.
