My art in 2019 - Adding weird, dark, and thrilling themes
Added 2019-01-16 22:32:17 +0000 UTC? This journal contains mentions/descriptions of abuse, violence, transphobic slurs and other things that may be triggering. Read with caution.
If you're seeing this in your inbox today, it's because I've basically re-written it after some criticism and more research! Even if you read the original, it might be worth it to read this again - I've clarified and added quite a bit, and the "avoiding/tagging" section is unique in this post.
So 2018 was pretty transformative for me! I started medication, improved my work ethic, Namiin and I added a new partner to our lives (hi Skott!) and had him visit us, I hit some roadblocks, I started socializing on Twitter and FA more... so many things! I learned a lot about myself.
One of the biggest changes was to my desires as a creator. I want to add much more variety to my art, especially my porn art. New kinks, darker themes, some uncomfortable things... I've limited myself for a long time to what I thought others wanted to see, but instead, I would like 2019 to be the year for I want to see. By 2020, I want to be a very different artist.
This post should give you an idea of what this change means, the things I want to do, how I want to do them, and if you can avoid things you dont like. I also talk about why, and link to some sources.
By the end, if you stay to a patron and want to watch me develop these things, then thats really cool! If youd rather unpledge, that's also cool. I appreciate you being here in the first place, more than I can say. Whether youre a recent patron, or youve been here since I launched, its your choice - all Im doing is giving you the means with which to make it.
WHAT IM DOING
To be clear, everything I already do in my art, Im going to continue to do! I'll never get rid Paige, for instance, and hes always going to be a good boy with a fluffy story. I have some other cute characters I'm working on, too. Im just expanding my horizons.
Ill try easing into some of this using cheeky dialogue, sketches, etc, to drop hints about a character's personality and purpose. In time, Ill get more bold, and much more casual.
Here are the new things I'll be exploring, listed in no particular order.
- Ferals/animals - Pokemon, dragons, and eventually regular animals like dogs and horses. Both on their own, and with anthros and humans.
- Incest - Brooke and the Hux twins are both exclusively into siblings; I might do other flavors later.
- Different bodies/genders - Interchangeable, multiple, or fantasy genitals. Some of these characters are transgender, some arent. Some of these will feature terms like cuntboy and dickgirl, some wont; Im trans, and I like them, but I decide based on the individual character's personality.
- Dubious consent and non-consent - Characters in sticky situations. From love potions and hypnosis, to role-play/consensual-non-consent scenes, to predators and serial rapists who use manipulation, threats, and force.
- Violence and gore - Some consensual, some not. Fighting, biting, knife...ing. Blood, but probably not guts. Oh, did I mention that Blaine is a cannibal...? I might also draw snuff, Im not sure.
- Trauma, mental illness, and abuse - Characters either having a bad day, making sure others do, or both. Some are working on it, some arent. Some of this is very sexual, some isn't. Blaine has a stalking/psychological terror arch later in his story; the Hux twins have a complicated past, etc.
I originally had my character Trish in this list, since I was referring to him as a "trap." After doing some research, I won't be, and so Ive removed him. I'm using otokonoko and honeypot instead.
? While Im here, remember that some of these things may be fun in fantasy, but they can be damaging in real life. Its porn, not a manual!
Tagging/avoiding things
Because I have a huge audience, in the FA journal, I mention that I'm going to be use to submission titles to warn for different things, and even link a browser addon to help people filter things. On Patreon, there's not only fewer options, making it tougher, but I would really like to be more relaxed and intimate.
Because they'll be a bit rarer and more uncomfortable, for any non-con, gore, and snuff, I'll stick a [warning] in the title, and upload a crop of the art, with the full version linked/attached. For example, you might see "[non-con] persuasive essay" in your inbox, and it's your choice to delve deeper.
Dub-con will be handled case-by-case. I'll be more likely to crop and [warn] the harder/more disturbing I think it is.
I won't do this for incest, ferals, or anything else, unless it overlaps with the first three. I'll probably be approaching twitter the same way.
If you think it'll help, you can turn off your email notifications for my posts here, though I think you'd still see in full me on your home page. If you're still not sure you want to see these themes, unpeldging may be the best bet, unfortunately. FA might be better in that case.
If you'd like to support me without pledging, message me and we can figure something out.
Why this change?
I find these things interesting! That's really the core of it all.
I enjoy that fiction allows the freedom to be anything or anyone, to learn, to heal, to challenge ourselves, and the endless possibilities of what if. I integrate sex with these subjects because, for me, theyve often gone hand in hand.
I was torn about doing this for a long time. If I could; how I should; freaking out when I finally decided that I would, haha. I think many of us are nervous that this problematic content, especially when sexual, will encourage abusers, or trivialize victims, or that only dangerous people like it. However, after over two years of reading, researching, and talking at great length with my psychologist, this seems not to be true in the majority of cases. People who do harm to others probably do have fantasies about it, but having fantasies is not what causes us to do harm, and while some may never feel like theres value in dark fiction, there is at least evidence that its not as harmful as others claim.
In contrast, pretending that dark fantasies arent a natural part of being human can lead to harm. Only allowing good fantasies, and condemning bad ones, can breed guilt and shame, and conflating fantasy and reality can make us blind to issues we need to address.
Here are some sources on these topics: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
At the end of the day, I dont want to be only a horror artist, nor only a porn artist, but a mix of both. What is frightening or uncomfortable can often be arousing and irresistible as well.
Also, lets just call a spade a spade. Villains are hot.
Thank you!
In the beginning of last year, one of my goals was to create characters and tell stories. Looking back, especially through my Patreon posts, I can see that I was searching for what that meant for a long time... I guess it only clicked a few months ago. Only very recently does it actually feel achievable. I'm very thankful for everyone who was supportive and encouraged me while I figured it out.
That said, I still don't know everything, so Im open to input. I've already stumbled a little, especially with Trish, and with the first iteration of this post, haha. I'm sure I will again. When I do, I just want to use it as an opportunity to learn how to do all of this, so I hope people will bear with me while I, uh work out the kinks.
Sorry, had to.
