Old Cock(atrice) - New sketch!

Reminder: I'm introducing darker themes to my work in 2019!  

Again, haha. 

This one has been tough! I wasn't entirely happy with the first sketch, so the other day I broke open DesignDoll for the first time in a while, and tried to find something new... a few times. 

The whole time, I've wanted this subtle, resigned, disinterested kind of vibe, but every time I tried to do that, it came out just a little bit off. 

The first is too pin-up-y, the second is too relaxed, third and fourth were honestly pretty okay, but still not quite what I wanted for this piece... Five was me giving up on something so resigned, and instead going for a more active and upright energy... 

... And then I did one last pose, and things finally fell into place. 

I think the fifth pose up there was really a turning point. I added a well that he's sitting on the edge of, and it was that prop that really got me thinking about his surroundings and the actual environment he'd be in - even if I didn't draw much of it at all, really getting my head into the narrative for the picture made figuring out what I actually wanted to draw so much easier! 

And so we have this pose here, now including a peek at the DD models as well. 

Quick thanks to patron Annoyance, who suggested putting the camera closer to his face, which really kicked off this whole thing!

The idea now is that you've found yourself in some kind of cat and mouse Cockatrice mating ritual, and, of course, the biggest and most experienced guy there is the one that starts chasing you. You were doing great for a second there, but when you trip and fall, guess who's there. It's okay, happens to everyone the first time. I'm sure he'll show you the ropes. 

I'm really excited to keep working on this! I think it really has a good vibe, and there's lots of room for you to interpret it however you want. Also... I just really wanted to draw his foot. 

The sketch from before had him in a suit, but I think I'll probably just do a loin cloth and some trophy jewelry or something like that. I'll draw someone else in a suit, haha. 

Also, I still want to do alt versions for the $5+ patrons! Probably different kinds of, uh, equipment... maybe a version where he's got blood on him? 

I'll figure it out! 

By the way, I haven't forgotten about the poll this month! I lost a couple days to a family emergency, but things are calming down now. Poll should be up in the next day or two.
