St. Andrew's Day

In Poland, the holiday Andrzejki is celebrated on the night of the 29th through 30 November. Traditionally, the holiday was only observed by young single girls, though today, both young men and women join the party to see their futures.

The main ceremony involved pouring hot wax from a candle through the hole in a key into cold water. The when the shape gets solid, you put it in front of the candle and then try to see your future from the shadow. Btw what do you see in mine? :D

Next you put a ring string. Ask a question to your ancestors and then pull the ring above the candle. If it swings in circles - the answer is yes, if it moves in a straight line - the answer is no.

For the next game you'll need 4 same cups, a ring, a coin and a leaf. You put those three thing under the cups (one stays empty), move them around a bit and the persone next to you pick one cup. If they find under it a coin - they will have lot of money in the next year, if ring - they will get married, if leaf - they will find true love in the next year and if they pick an empty cup - nothing will change. I picked a leaf! :D

Then there's this game where all single girls meet in the middle of the village at night. They have to be really quiet because they need to listen to the dog barks. Whichever direction the bark came first - from that direction your future husband will come.

Do you know any other games? Do you even celebrate St. Andrew's Day in your country?

Love, Erinthul.
