I am sick! - Album listening

Hey ❤️

Last weekend I was out in the sun a lot and must’ve caught a good ‘ol summer cold leading to some gnarly tonsilitis. I can’t really speak without pain, so I have another idea for the listen along.

Here is the album I wanted to listen and talk with you guys about:

“Magic Spirit Quartet”

https://open.spotify.com/album/1Kcnpv8bY2lyKHqw2kJdZb?si=NKoKp3jsRsy_5ORzPFu-Kg

Can find the album on YT too!

So this is different. I definitely have mentioned it in the past before, but this really is a beautiful piece of art. I know it likely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I urge you to listen to it with an open heart.

It’s an album I come back to when I want to just let my mind wander for a while. It’s heartfelt, and beautiful. And while I don’t understand the words, I understand where they come from.

To make this just a little more enganging, i’ll be listening to this 30 minutes after I post. I would love to hear what you think about it, and perhaps also what it made you feel. My favourite track is Annabi, so if you don’t have time for the full album, that’s the track I’d recommend.

Okay! Now back to dealing with my fever 🌱

Good morning 🌻 Thank you Crunchy for sharing music with us. Discovering new music is my favorite. Some of the songs felt very intense and overwhelming but not necessarily in a bad way. I knew which one was Annabi without looking. It's probably my favorite. I also really like Hassania and Chahia Taiba. ♥️

here are my long rambly thoughts straight from my notes app lol Aicha: Slow start I really like the vocalist The pick up in the last few minutes with the gang vocals was worth it Was that a few electronic flourishes at the end??? Hassania: Reminds me of that story plot chart that looks like a hill? but like several times Bania: Cool vibes like walking through a city in a leather jacket and glasses kind of vibe Like this dude has a mission, he’s determined, he’s driven okay the beats’ picking up! we’ve got some urgency, maybe some danger even Chahia Taiba: A mid album slowdown bc we gotta give these people a minute to breathe Mrhaba: Very floaty very dreamy Amazed at how smoothly these songs develop like before I know it I’m listening to a completely different song from the beginning Annabi: This feels comforting in a way? The vocals make it nostalgic Beautiful end MSQ: the horn goin off!!!!! that’s all i got bc this one is shorter that was an experience like i went through a whole range of emotions listening to this lmao

I'm not too sure how to describe the album, other than listening to it is an interesting experience. It's not something I'd normally choose to listen to but I can appreciate the composition. It's literally audio art. I'll will say though, listening to it felt like listening to the soundtrack of a movie. Aicha is the opening credits. Bania is watching the band from the bar in the jazz club. Chahia Taiba is a dusty mysterious drive through the desert to a hidden unmarked town. MSQ is the getaway drive after a heist while the end credits roll.

Thanks Crunch for sharing some of your favourite music with us. It's really fun to discover new things based on the recommendation of someone else and it's even better when it's a group thing and more people can share their thoughts. Me and my friends have a movie discussion club and I've watched movies there which I would probably never pick otherwise - similarly to this album 😅 I'm not a very musical person and I don't really know how to talk about melodies, instruments and arrangements (especially in such a detailed way like you guys did in the comments above🔥), so I'll just say that I liked Balia the most for its more groovy sound 🙂 Chahia Taiba was really nice as well - a lil' bit mysterious and sad. A bit unfortunate that we didn't get to hear you ramble about it (being ill when it's warm sucks), but overall this listen-along was a really good idea of yours 😊 Hope you get well soon!

I’m open to new music and enjoy finding new favourites. My playlist is a mix of everything there is to listen. I don’t think I would find this album on my own and I appreciate you sharing it with us. I’ve listened in the morning, and I’m relistening to some tracks rn. I love music that sounds like places or even like particular cultures, which this album does sound for me. That probably explains why I liked this year's Moldova's Eurovision song so much 😅 💃🏻 Chahia Taiba is the one I liked the most. The mood and the way it sounds is simply ✨✨✨

Oh, I love ethno. I like how it's combined with jazz and a bit of blues here. Annabi doesn't sound bad, but I liked Mrhaba and Hassania better. I hope you're not allergic to honey? It is good for sore throats. Still, it sounds crazy, but a good remedy is warm beer. I remember I had a bad cough and a sore throat. And nothing didn't work. I was advised to drink warm beer and I felt better 🤣🤣🤣 Get well soon, sunshine, and have a good rest 💙

This album made me think in photographs and imagined film landscapes, Crunchy. It makes sense to me that Annabi is your favorite. It feels like the way your breath sounds in some of your sleepy audios. Hydrate redeem, Crunchy 💜🌱💜 Thank you for sharing this with us even when you're not feeling great. I hope you recover quickly 🌼

I sincerely hope you feel better soon and get some much deserved rest

(Pt.2) Annabi- love the mix of instruments here, and love the tickles I'm getting out of this one! Feels like I'm sauntering in the clouds, fluffy and clear, with the sun hitting your skin. Like everything thats happening below that cloud, all the chaos and harm, can't reach that cloud. It's peace, it's comfort, it reminds me of you. Can see why this one is your favorite 🍉 MSQ- returning back to chaotically in sync, just like Aicha. A random thought I had while listening to this one, how the instruments are not in tuned to each other yet are still harmonizing in its own way. How there can be order in the disorder of life and how we are chugging along in life with this disorder. Despite its chaos, we can still hear and see the beauty of it all and appreciate its beauty for how it is. Thank you so much for indulging us in this wonderful music! I hear so many influences in each song, and I can definitely see why this album holds a special place within you. My heart is open to many sounds, and this one will happily be placed in as well 💙 Be gentle with yourself, and don't stress too much on content if your voice isn't up for it. Stay safe, meow meow!

Oh my lord, my ears are in love. So here's a quick review of each song and each one was a wonderfully wild ride! (Pt.1) Aicha- definitely pulling the heart strings. Love the instruments sounding so chaotically in sync with each other. Moments of storms with bliss and back to storms again, but throughout the ride it felt so bittersweet and dizzying and longing. As the song played, becoming more chaotic and speeding in pace, whirling more and more in your head as if your mind is dancing along. Hassania- beginning sounds like I'm falling into a trance that I'm willing to go along for the journey. Hypnotic in the most beautiful way. Love the ticklish feeling in my ears at the end Bania- right away, groovy~ reminds me of the times I'd walk throughout the city, the mix of old in one ear and the mix of new in another (if that makes any sense) with a nice beat to go along. Some parts here remind me of a song by Shpongle, had a bit of a psychedelic Latin American kick for a few points, and oooh did it tickle! Chahia taiba- beginning, romantically melancholic. Outerworldly and trance-like. That soft transition in the middle then starting to feel implicitly dark yet still inviting, beautiful Mrhaba- starts off like an experiment, determining whether your body should move slow or fast. Trying to move slow is not fast enough, trying to move fast is too fast. Trying to keep a balance with the beat, find your center. That's how it feels. The transition really does sound like it's out of Spyro (bonus points for Acedia for noticing!) and now I'm feeling like watching a walkthrough for that nostalgia.
