This is so so late, but I'm going to share just in case anyone that reads these old comments would get a kick out of hearing another SU OC idea. Ori and iolIte! This is an authentic creation of mine from back in the day, sitting in math class bored out of my mind during the peak of the show. Which of course spiraled into a complete hyper fixation that lasts for years and these characters are still very special to me. Iolite is a rare type of gem (I own one!) that has refractory light properties that sailors used to use to get the angle of the moon or something like that. The point is it refracts light and it was used for navigation. Iolites in homeworld are covert units used for recon and assassinations, since their primary ability is teleporting by slipping in and out of spaces. Ori, a nickname that's short for orange Ruby, is a Black ops science experiment made during the war, under the nose of yellow diamond by one of her main lieutenants who was pushed into creating a powerful enough weapon to change the tide of the war. This gem performed a forbidden experiment to bombard rubies with severe radiation, intentionally making them off color and a form of abomination in the eyes of home world, in order to create a sort of super ruby, and when it worked and one of the rubies awoke they immediately tried to glass the whole colony and erase all records from existence. Iolite was sent to this colony to assassinate the rampaging Orange Ruby, but due to a mishap they were sent hurtling into space, iolite refusing to leave her side until she brings her home. This led to an uncountable amount of time, months or even years, where they were stuck together in space floating randomly, until they got to know each other well enough that they eventually fused without realizing it and ori's extreme power with iolite's teleportation allowed them to teleport to other star systems. Then there's a whole AU where they show up during the season 1 finale of the show and most major events happen the same way except that there arc is kind of woven in with peridot and lapis, because really I just wanted to write a story about my characters and also flesh out my favorite characters from the show, so there's a lot of interaction between those four. Anyway I hope at least one person got a kick out of reading that! This whole video made me very happy because making gemsonas is a very fun pasttime and Haley really captured a lot of what I find enticing about it.

2024-11-13 22:40:34 +0000 UTCI chose a type of garnet called Andradite for mine and I decided that mine was also a fusion…between a Graphite (charts new planets and is able to see through walls and in the dark) and a Calcite (works underground and glows in the dark) and their gems were on their back and chest respectively so when they summoned their fusion weapon it’s a SWORD THAT EMERGES FROM BOTH ENDS AND THEY PULL IT OUT OF THEIR OWN CHEST!!! One of the best ideas I ever had as a teen.

2024-07-06 11:04:41 +0000 UTCi really love the archivist jade concept, thanks for the great option - gonna go with 'jadeite' (full name jadeite spar 8 facet 33 or however full names work in steven universe, i do not have that peridot dialogue memorized, ahahahaa), and she's got her gem in the space between her shoulders like lapis lazuli. she didn't have much personal stake in the whole 'colonizing and destroying planets' aspect of the home world system, but with things changing she's having to figure out new categorizations and rearranging archives and like on the one hand there's plenty of exciting new work to do, but on the other hand it was kinda nice just looking stuff up, right? all this extra work is so tiring.... (and then she does some soul searching and realizes that whole thought process is a little fucked up)

2024-06-29 06:10:43 +0000 UTCHoly smokes it has been so long since I’ve thought about SU but now I feel the need to rewatch this brilliant show in my damn bones! Okay gemsona idea let’s go: Her name is Tanzanite but she goes by Tanzie (at least that’s what Steven calls her when she joins the Crystal Gems’ resistance and the name just kinda sticks.) She’s more pink than purple in colouring and used to serve Pink Diamond in Homeworld before being transferred to the service of Blue Diamond. Her role in Homeworld was pretty much that of a medic or a healer who would take care of gems and patch up any damage or injuries they sustained. She’s an incredibly nurturing, mother-hen type and her gem is on her stomach (but isn’t typically visible since she wears long robes that cover it for the most part. When she joins the resistance though, she starts letting her gem show and doesn’t feel compelled to guard her little soft heart as much as she used to. She starts wearing it proudly.) She always felt a deep-seated sense of discontent and discomfort with the caste system of Homeworld, but felt guilty for it and was compelled to keep that discontent hidden. Seeing gems suffer injuries they sustained while serving their duties, but never questioning their own autonomy in choosing those roles led Tanzie to wonder if it was possible for things to change. But because she was so dedicated to her role, it never seemed like it could happen - especially after Pink Diamond shattered. But when she gets recruited by the Crystal Gems, they help her realise that it is possible and that she doesn’t need to sit idly by to watch needless destruction! So she joins them and starts actively taking part in the resistance by offering her skills and partaking in the fight herself. 🩷 (Did I just make a Cleric gemsona? Yes. Yes I did. What about it?)

2024-06-28 08:28:45 +0000 UTCi'm drawn to peridot-line so I'm goin with an Olivine "Olive", basically an off-color coulda-been-a-peridot, still an engineer but like unreliable and kinda mad-scientist vibes. stuck doing the hard and unrewarding engineering tasks like wiring and plumbing while the other peridots are up programming and planning everything. Her gem is at the top of the head, constantly at risk of bumping it into machines while she's crawling inside trying to fix stuff that she didn't assemble right. Spent years occasionally smuggling stuff into ships and construction vehicles to get them to the various resistances on the ground, and when the items were found she'd just feign ignorance and say it was a mistake from her being dumb and off-color. Not really interested in fusing, she's very content to just spend her days building stuff, but she's probably been talked into fusing once or twice and just matched the level of investment coming from her partner until they broke apart. also ty for reminding me again how much I loved SU, I've got my next two weeks of TV lined up now :) incredible vid as always

2024-06-28 05:46:15 +0000 UTCI went with black Rutliated Quartz and because that patterning makes me think of spiders for some reason I'm naming her Spider. I think since it's a military type is that she'd be an infiltration/recon type of creature. Mostly because I am fascinated with the ways my brain is conjuring her movement, like she's got the normal amount of humanoid limbs and still probably bends in weird ways to climb up walls and stuff. I'm nothing if not a horror character creator at heart. I think she probably was loyal for a really long time up until enough instances of being seen when she wasn't meant to be and those creatures imploring her to think about it piled up into a conscious and she swapped to being a double agent. I think her gem placement would be along her fingers, cause rutile is often kinda rod like and spindly, so kinda like that pattern replacing fingers which may or may not work with how gem placement technically works but I didn't watch Steven Universe and this is more fun to me. I think she's a really action oriented person, much better at showing something than saying it. Generally a quiet bean, which I'm sure says more than just shyness but we don't have time to unpack all that. You said you made a Jade librarian type and now all my brain can think about is that if she were to fuse it'd be with one of those information/archive tasked gems.

She was a military intelligence analyst for the Homeworld who would gather information on the societies the Diamonds were colonizing. Over time as she gathered more and more information about these societies she began to hoard information for herself. She continued going along with the diamonds orders without complaint because her life was comfortable enough and by expanding the society there were always new places to find and take information from. She's deeply amoral and would not be considered a good person but now I kinda just wanna spin her around in my head like it's a centrifuge.

2024-06-27 20:27:13 +0000 UTCSO sorry haley can't believe im jumping in to dispense steven universe trivia - it's Pearl who lies to Garnet in order to make Sardonyx happen more, and they only made Sardonyx (despite knowing that fusion is not terribly stable) because Garnet wanted to avoid fusing with Amethyst to make Sugilite again because Sugilite started trying to destroy stuff (notably Steven) last time she was brought out. also, Malachite was a bad fusion but it's not as straightforward as Jasper forcing Lapis, Lapis agreed to the fusion in order to trick Jasper and locked her into this terrible fusion under the sea for several months. Lapis felt weird and bad about it later. Jasper also felt weird about it she got a huge fusion complex. anyway. great video <3
