No I am NOT excited to dig into the Queens of Darkness arc, thank you for asking. But it's all worth it for the 2-part season finale. I'm just sprinting towards the incredible 2-part finale and high fiving Will Scarlet on my way there.
Also sorry for dropping this in the literal middle of the night, this one is for everyone being kept awake by fireworks.

There are some truly baffling plot points for them that don't really seem to serve any purpose for either of their characters. Like, don't have your "good" characters do morally ambiguous/bad things if you're not prepared to deal with the nuances involved.

2024-07-11 21:25:36 +0000 UTCHonestly, I always liked the first part of S4 even though it's poorly written. I really liked Emma and Elsa's friendship, and Regina's arc was one of my favorites. I'm forever mad that they ruined it just for the nonsense that happened in the second 1/2. It would been so much better if Marian had actually been saved, especially knowing what really ends up happening with her. Also, I love the finale of this 1/2! It's so unserious and funny, and I love it every time I watch it.

2024-07-11 21:24:51 +0000 UTCI remember watching this show as a teen and never being particularly bothered by its Not Spectacular writing (and frankly when I finally get around to my rewatch I doubt I will be then either purely because it was so formative for me) but I *do* really appreciate your consistent refusal to accept the writers' nonsense and commitment to rewriting history so it. You know. Actually makes sense lmao

2024-07-08 00:20:38 +0000 UTCImo, the biggest issue with the frozen arc is the fact that frozen was only 2~ years old when this season came out, and disney was still 1000% in their frozen era. Not sure when they filmed this, but it's possible that the movie was basically brand new when they began filming for season 4 (or at least the end of season 3). Disney wasn't gonna let OUAT of all things change a THING about their beloved cashcow, not at this state. Everything must be screen accurate, quality be damned. God I would KILL to see elsa and anna properly done up by the OUAT stylists. Aeuughjjhhhhhhh

2024-07-07 05:58:07 +0000 UTCI dont think it was a licensing thing (given the show was on ABC which is owned by Disney). I think it was a mandate from the higherups to keep everything Frozen more literal and one to one because Frozen was such a financial juggernaut.

(also sorry i never wound up commenting on the full version of the s3 video--watched it and loved it but then got fully subsumed by a separate hyperfixation whoops) you're so right about the outfits, first of all, it is SO jarring that they just straight-up have elsa in storybrooke in a bad costume of her movie outfit the whole time. like what WAS that decision??? also i very much agree about the ways that robin loves regina, and that every regina+henry scene is Very Cute (the scene where henry demands to be let back into the house gets me every time) the thing about me and s4 is that there are So Many ways in which it is Not Good but god every emma/regina scene in it has had me in a chokehold since i was a teenager so i am incapable of being normal about it. once upon a time for me really is, i am realizing, what supernatural was for a lot of my friends lmao. also i am SO glad we're on the same page about Whatever The Fuck was happening with emma and lily lmao. i did want to ask your thoughts on the emma/regina scene at the end of that ep, though ("they don't understand what it feels like to be rejected and misunderstood, not the way i do, not the way YOU do. and somehow that makes us...unique, maybe even special. i wasn't looking for you to assuage my guilt, i was just looking for you to be my friend" / "you thought we were friends?" / "crazy, right? but i thought it could be that it was possible... i'm not gonna stop trying, even if you still want to kill me" / "emma...i don't want to kill you") bc every time i watch it i go FULLY insane and i totally get that the first half of this season's vid is already 2 hours and you probably had to streamline it for time but like. you know??? to borrow your turn of phrase: ladies?????? excuse me, ladies????????? anyway i would love to hear your thoughts/feelings (if you had any! it is possible that perhaps this is an insanity i am alone with)

Personally I really hate the author arc. Perhaps why you’re not getting a happy ending as a villain is because you keep doing terrible things? You hurt a bunch of people? Like particularly Regina and Rumple, almost everything that comes to them is of their own doing. Even with Marian - like Regina did fully kill her earlier in her life and that’s a small consequence for the mass murder she did as the evil queen.
