When you say it wasn't all nice, amusement parks can be scary and we love it. I always thought this was a nice episode.

Chuck Rice

I’ll check him out, thanks!

William Ware Theiss was the costume designer, and was responsible for most of what you saw worn on Star Trek. If you search William Ware Theiss in Google, then Images, you will see many examples of his work from all three seasons of Star Trek.

Dave Riley

I didn't realize they did that for TOS but I do recall that later Star Trek shows had them for sure, and if it was a new episode they would have a blue banner on it as well saying 'New Episode!'

This is the one my dad thought was totally ridiculous. Whenever I would peruse his VHS collection as a kid and see the rabbit on the back of the case, I would ask to see this one and he'd brush me off lol. Something you may not know is after each episode they would play a "Next week on Star Trek!" preview of the next episode. Some may consider those spoilery, but I lament that they took those out on Paramount Plus because the VHS and DVDs had them.

I've always liked this one - not my favorite or in my top 20 even, but it's one of those light hearted, humorous episodes that Star Trek does now and then. After all, you can't be serious all the time....and shows, just like people, need fun and games at times. I also liked seeing another part of McCoy's personality, and seeing a bit more of Sulu as we haven't seen him a lot so far outside of The Naked Time. It was also fun seeing more of Kirk's history and his problems with Finnigan back at the Academy. Can't recall her name, but the woman officer in this episode on shore leave with them was both a good actress AND very easy on the eyes. :) This also started a 'tradition' of Star Trek doing things with the concept of shore leave, time off, R&R and other things like that. In later shows they introduced a pleasure planet called Risa that is the centerpiece of several episodes. Star Trek was heavily advertised by NBC for it's 'full color', in a time when a lot of shows on TV were still in black and white and a lot of folks didn't have color TV's yet. So the network made sure the episodes had vivid and eye popping colors. We are now over the half way point in the season -- there's both some of my favs still coming up in Season 1 and also some real duds. So you will hear me say 'meh' again. LOL

Probably not what would I call a top tier episode but an enjoyable one. It's fun, it's a little silly, and sometimes that's all you need in your tv adventures. Any chance we can get to see some big Bones and Kirk smiles and cheeky exchanges and this one definitely fits the bill 🙂
