The Strongest Sorcerer, Chapter 47: Return to Everyday Life

Umaru looked on in disbelief, her face twitching as Subaru Mitejima clung tightly to her brother’s arm, practically glued to him.
“You vile woman! I’ll never acknowledge you as my sister-in-law!”
She fumed internally, her frustration boiling over.
It had been over an hour since they had returned to reality from Magano.
After dealing with the samurai Kegare, Gojo Satoru had been mildly surprised by Subaru’s unexpected arrival. Once the battle was over, the Onmyoji had opened the Gate to Reality and organized the return of the civilians trapped in Magano.
The civilians were immediately sent to Onmyoji healing facilities, as prolonged exposure to Magano could lead to health complications later in life. Only those with inherently strong cursed energy could avoid such effects.
As for memory erasure, the Onmyoji department had it all covered.
However, three individuals escaped having their memories wiped: Umaru, Nana Ebina, and Masuzu Natsukawa.
In Masuzu’s case, Gojo hadn’t initially intended to intervene, but after Umaru pleaded on her behalf—and upon recalling Masuzu’s name—he realized who she was.
He also remembered the transfer documents sent by the Sobu High principal a while back. At the time, he’d been too lazy to read them, but after finally skimming through, he discovered something interesting: Masuzu was about to become one of his students.
And of course, Gojo had special treatment for his own students.
As for Subaru, her reason for staying was simple: “I traveled all the way from Kyoto to Tokyo. How could I leave so soon? I might as well shop for a few outfits before heading back!”
Since she was staying, her lodging options were limited to the Gojo Residence.
Oh, and Tatara?
He had suddenly decided to return to Kyoto, for reasons Gojo suspected had to do with Subaru "encouraging" him to leave, likely in pursuit of some alone time with Gojo.
“Oniichan, I’m hungry,” Umaru said, shooting an annoyed glare at Subaru as she clung to Gojo’s arm.
“What do you want to eat, Umaru? I’ll go buy it for you.”
Gojo looked up from his phone, his tone gentle as he asked the question.
Thanks to his [Limitless Technique], Gojo could teleport anywhere in Japan. Whether it was ramen from Hokkaido or desserts from Okinawa, he could get anything his sister desired.
He always doted on her—it was his job as her big brother, after all.
“No, I want you to cook for me!”
“Alright, alright, but you’ll have to wait a little while.”
The ever-capable Gojo didn’t mind. Cooking? A piece of cake for someone like him. His culinary skills could rival those of the Tōtsuki Elite Ten from Food Wars.
Hearing this, Umaru couldn’t help but grin, even sneaking a triumphant glance at Subaru.
See? This is how much my brother spoils me. If I’m hungry, he’ll go buy food for me. And if I want him to cook, he’ll do it personally!
“Such a childish mindset,” Subaru muttered, noticing Umaru’s smug expression. Instead of responding, she leaned even closer to Gojo, her soft body pressing against his arm.
Umaru’s face flushed with anger, her frustration almost making her breathe fire.
.....
After they finally ate their much-anticipated dinner, something unusual happened: Umaru didn’t retreat to her room to play games like she usually did.
Instead, she sprawled out on the living room couch, snuggling into Gojo’s arms.
Gojo didn’t mind. This was a common occurrence between them—a daily habit of sorts.
Seeing that there was no room for her to join, Subaru sighed in frustration, lightly scratching her cheek. Reluctantly, she sat beside Gojo and latched onto his arm instead.
Time ticked away, and soon it was midnight.
Umaru, exhausted from the day’s events—shopping, the unexpected trip to Magano, and the ensuing chaos—found herself struggling to keep her eyes open.
Before long…
“Snore… snore…”
Hearing the soft sound of Umaru’s snores, Gojo glanced down. Gently, he ran a hand through her chestnut-colored hair, his touch tender and full of affection.
Carefully, he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to her room.
Subaru followed quietly, her bare feet making no sound as she trailed behind him.
After tucking Umaru into bed and pulling the blanket over her, Gojo softly closed the door behind him.
“Don’t leave me, Oniichan…” Umaru mumbled in her sleep, her voice barely audible.
....
Back in the living room, Subaru finally claimed her spot in Gojo’s arms, greedily inhaling his familiar scent.
At that moment, the elegant, aristocratic woman seemed to transform into a lovestruck fool, her demeanor completely different from before.
“Well, Satoru-kun, your sister is quite the jealous little thing, isn’t she?”
Her cheek pressed against his chest, Subaru spoke in a muffled voice.
“I bet she doesn’t even acknowledge me as her sister-in-law yet.”
“There’s nothing I can do about it,” Gojo replied, his tone calm as he scrolled through his phone.
“After all, I’m all she has.”
His words carried a subtle weight, and Subaru froze for a moment, processing what he said.
After a long silence, she finally spoke.
“And I… only have you.”
Gojo didn’t respond with words. Instead, he gently patted her back, offering silent reassurance.
On his phone screen, Gojo reviewed the final report from the Tokyo Onmyoji branch:
Onmyoji deaths: 35
Exorcist deaths: 57
Civilian deaths: 471
Civilians rescued: 1,951
The casualties were staggering. The government would have to do its best to suppress public knowledge of the event, compensate the victims’ families, and provide explanations.
Just then, Subaru leaned in close, her cherry lips brushing against Gojo’s ear.
“You know, Satoru-kun, the night is long… and I just can’t seem to fall asleep,” she whispered, her breath warm against his skin.
