Reborn as Superman's Son, Ch 49

Chapter 49: The Watcher: It's All Just Tasks Assigned by Mr. Clark!

"Hey!"

"Whatever money you want, I can give you."

"I can even give you everything I have."

"Just please spare my life."

Obadiah kept begging Eden for mercy.

When Obadiah realized he was facing a god among men who could fly freely through the air and tear through steel with his bare hands, all will to resist vanished.

Honestly, this was beyond the limits of his imagination.

"Idiot."

Eden looked at Obadiah with mockery in his eyes and said coldly, "Once I kill you, everything you have will be mine anyway."

"Huh?"

Obadiah froze. Then he found himself flying high into the air. Looking down from above, he saw a headless corpse that Eden had thrown off Stark Industries Tower.

"BOOM!"

After Eden dealt with Obadiah, he extracted the three arc reactors installed in Iron Monger's chest and flew to Tony Stark.

"It's been a whole month and you still haven't removed the shrapnel from your heart? Your progress is too slow, Tony."

Eden's X-ray vision pierced through Tony's chest. He saw four pieces of shrapnel slowly moving toward Tony's heart now that they'd lost the electromagnetic attraction holding them back. His brow furrowed slightly.

"I..."

Tony seemed about to say something.

But before Tony could finish, he saw Eden's eyes begin burning with crimson light.

Then Tony Stark felt warmth in his chest.

"Done. I've dealt with the shrapnel for you."

"The bleeding's been stopped too."

"Keep a better eye on your arc reactors. Don't lose them again."

After finishing all this, Eden tossed the three fusion reactors to Stark and warned him, "Come on, you're Tony Stark."

"I know, buddy! I was just careless this time—right, careless. I really didn't expect Obadiah to be crazy enough to try destroying both me and Stark Tower."

Sheepish, Stark put his hand to his head, dusted off his clothes, then looked away. After fidgeting through a dozen nervous gestures, he quietly promised, "Okay, there definitely won't be a next time."

"Tony, I'll leave the rest for you to handle."

After Eden spoke, he looked up toward the distance.

Eden's vision crossed a full kilometer, finally locking onto "Pepper" Potts, who'd been seduced by Tony Stark's smooth talking, successfully "ambushed" by Stark, dragged away by the aircraft, and left hanging from a tower.

Eden looked at Tony with an amused expression and said, "I think you have quite a lot to do next, Tony."

"Yeah, I know."

Tony understood what Eden meant. He nodded somewhat helplessly.

"BOOM!"

When Tony looked up again, Eden's form had already disappeared into the sky.

"Clearly, the Mark armor's propulsion still isn't enough."

Tony watched Eden leave and said quietly.

"Well then, time to clean up this mess." As Tony said this, he staggered up from the ground and touched his chest where the heat vision had perfectly "stitched" the wound closed. He shook his head. "Damn. Medicine is obsolete."

"Alright, Pepper! Open your eyes and see who's here? It's me, Tony Stark! I've come for you!"

After Tony's complaint, he immediately picked up the arc reactors from the ground, put on his Mark armor, and flew toward Potts a kilometer away.

"Tony!"

At that moment, Potts looked at Tony Stark in his iron suit. She was surprised and delighted, joyful yet angry.

The next morning.

Stark Industries.

Tony Stark held a press conference.

"Anyway, a lot happened yesterday."

"As you all know, just as the official report stated, an armor suit we were researching at Stark Industries exploded."

"Well, it's roughly that simple."

Tony Stark stood at the podium accompanied by his friend Colonel Rhodes, continuously answering questions from reporters.

"Is that really all?" one reporter asked dissatisfied.

"Fine. Let me give you something explosive." As Stark spoke, he crumpled the note in his hand—the official press conference script prepared for him—into a ball. He said in a deep voice, "The truth is, I am Iron Man."

"Whoa!!"

Exclamations instantly filled the entire conference. All the reporters pressed their camera shutters.

In that moment, everyone knew.

With Stark's words, this world was about to change.

It was also in this moment that playboy Tony Stark took his first steps toward becoming Iron Man.

"I knew it would be like this."

At the press conference, Colonel Rhodes and "Pepper" Potts both showed expressions of "just as expected." They seemed to have guessed long ago that with Tony Stark's personality, he would never obediently read from the script.

Meanwhile.

After Eden heard that familiar line "I am Iron Man," he closed the livestream of Stark Industries' press conference and called out, "Hey, Watcher, come out!"

[Ahem.]

[Esteemed Mr. Eden Kent, technically speaking, you're not supposed to initiate contact with me.]

The Watcher replied helplessly.

"You contacted me first, buddy."

Eden lay on his bed, chatting with this universe's Watcher.

[That was all... just a task.]

The Watcher was also helpless. These were all tasks from the master.

[In any case, Mr. Clark Kent asked me to give you a message.]

Seeing that he'd already been exposed, the Watcher decided not to hide anymore and spoke directly.

"What did my dad say?"

Eden asked.

[...]

[Mr. Clark Kent asked me to tell you that if the Avengers cannot successfully assemble, you'll have to step up.]

After a moment of silence, the Watcher spoke plainly.

"Huh?!"

Eden was completely dumbfounded. He thought he'd misheard.

What did it mean that if the Avengers couldn't successfully assemble, he'd have to step up?

What kind of logic was that?!

[In any case, that's all Mr. Clark Kent asked me to convey.]

The Watcher answered truthfully.

"Wait. Explain to me exactly what that means." Eden shouted angrily at the Watcher.

[Time, space, reality—these are not just lines, but like a prism reflecting infinite possibilities. I am the legendary Watcher, and I shall provide real-time narration for Mr. Clark Kent of "Eden's Marvel Legend."]

As Eden shouted in anger, the narration voice in his ear grew fainter and fainter until it disappeared without a trace.

"Haha!"

"My invincible dad even found himself an audiobook narrator?!"

Eden was once again both amused and exasperated by his invincible father.

"Simply put, with my dad's 'helpful' interference."

"If I don't participate in assembling the Avengers, then the Avengers will have a 100% chance of failing to assemble."

Eden felt extremely frustrated.

Based on Eden's understanding of his father Clark.

If Tony Stark's key opponent in his transformation from playboy to Iron Man—Iron Monger—could go from single-core to triple-core and nearly kill Tony—

Then by that logic, the final bosses for the other Avengers members' solo arcs had probably been significantly buffed as well.

"I should go find Nick Fury." Eden had a plan forming.

S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury's office.

"Still no one can lift the hammer in Mexico."

"Captain America's thawing process doesn't seem to be going smoothly either."

"Dr. Banner and the military are fully at odds now."

"Fortunately, there's good news from Tony Stark's side."

After Nick Fury infiltrated Stark Tower, negotiated with Tony Stark, made decent progress, and returned to his office, he stopped in his tracks.

Nick Fury looked at the lights on in his office and instinctively reached for the pistol at his waist.

"I never thought I'd experience this kind of day."

Nick Fury murmured to himself.

Usually, he was the spy king who infiltrated other people's offices. But he never expected he'd experience being infiltrated himself.

"Since you're back, come in quickly! Nick Fury."

Just as Nick Fury's brow furrowed and he was about to retreat, that extremely familiar voice suddenly sounded in his ear.

"Whew."

Upon hearing the voice, Nick Fury immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

As the king of spies, he could easily remember everyone's voice.

Nick Fury first put his pistol back in his pocket, then pushed the door open with a calm expression.

As soon as Nick Fury entered, his gaze locked onto the person sitting behind his desk—someone relaxed and carefree, currently sitting in his seat browsing through files. He said helplessly, "Eden, this is illegal trespassing."

"Illegal trespassing?!"

"I never thought I'd hear those words from the famous Nick Fury's mouth."

Eden tossed the files onto the desk and teased Nick Fury.

"Ahem."

After clearing his throat, Nick Fury asked Eden, "So, Mr. Kent, what brings you from New York to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters?"

"Nick, send me a copy of the Avengers Initiative files."

Eden said calmly.

"Hm?"

Nick Fury froze for a moment, then handed over the Avengers Initiative files he'd compiled to Eden.

"Currently, the initial candidates for the Avengers are: 'Captain America' Steve Rogers, 'Hawkeye' Clint Barton, 'Black Widow' Natasha Romanoff, 'Hulk' Bruce Banner, and 'Iron Man' Tony Stark—these five."

After handing the files to Eden, Nick Fury didn't forget to personally introduce the five key members of the Avengers Initiative.

"Of course, if you're planning to join this initiative, Eden, that would be fantastic. In fact, we need top-tier combat power as the face of the Avengers." Nick Fury said this.

"No. I won't directly join the Avengers." Eden shook his head. He pushed the Avengers Initiative documents in front of Nick Fury and continued, "Nick, I'll help you assemble the 'Avengers' team! But I won't directly join them. From today on, I give orders to you. Then you give orders to the Avengers."

"Fine."

Nick Fury agreed readily, though what the old fox was really thinking, probably only he knew.

"Mm."

Eden nodded.

With a gust of wind, Eden's form immediately disappeared.

In truth, Eden didn't care what Nick Fury was thinking deep down. He only needed an identity through which he could intervene in these "worldly affairs."

"Hehe."

Nick Fury looked at his office scattered by the howling wind. He couldn't help but laugh. The stronger Eden was, the more satisfied he felt.

In the apartment.

"Next, I need Nick Fury to watch a few people for me," Eden thought.

Eden had Nick Fury watch everyone in the Mexican town who claimed to be a "god" and anyone who claimed to be the owner of that hammer that fell from the sky.

In addition, Eden also had Nick Fury help him keep track of Dr. Banner's whereabouts.

Several days later.

Eden thought he'd receive news about Bruce Banner first.

But unexpectedly, Nick Fury told him that compared to Banner's side, the hammer that fell in Mexico sent back news first.

A burly, completely drunk blonde man insisted he was the "God of Thunder" Thor and recklessly charged into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s perimeter, saying he wanted to reclaim the hammer.

Unfortunately, the man called Thor failed and was knocked unconscious by an electrified arrow from "Hawkeye" Clint Barton.

The God of Thunder being afraid of electricity was probably the most absurd thing in history.

Currently, this guy claiming to be Thor, the "God of Thunder," was being held in the detention room at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "hammer" outpost base.

Even so.

Eden still arrived in Mexico in time.

"Hello?"

"Mr. Eden, have you arrived?"

"Director Nick Fury just called me saying you'll be coming to Mexico personally. Do you need me to pick you up?!"

Phil Coulson was currently outside the outpost base, on the phone with Eden.

"No need, Coulson," Eden replied.

"Uh, then about how long until you arrive? I'll prepare in advance." Phil Coulson continued asking.

"Now." As Eden spoke, he'd already put on his suit and left his New York apartment.

"Now? You're in Mexico right now?" Phil Coulson was somewhat confused. He looked around as he asked, "Where are you?"

"Beep beep beep."

It was then that Coulson realized Eden had already hung up.

Coulson looked at the disconnected phone in his hand, feeling puzzled.

"Look above you, Agent Coulson."

At that moment, Eden's voice came from above Coulson's head.

Coulson stared dumbfounded at Eden in the sky, shocked.

"Interesting."

The moment Eden arrived in Mexico, his gaze penetrated through the S.H.I.E.L.D. base and fell upon Thor, who'd lost his "divine power" in the detention room, as well as Loki, who'd specifically descended to visit Thor.

Currently, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents seemed completely unaware of Loki's arrival.
