Reborn as Superman's Son, Ch 52

Chapter 52: Loki: Hell, Eden Is More Like a God Than Any of Us Asgardians!

"So the most important thing right now is…"

Eden turned to Thor and said seriously, "You need to find a way to lift your hammer again."

"That? I have no idea how to regain 'her' recognition."

Thor looked dejected. He truly, from the bottom of his heart, wanted to wield Mjolnir again.

"Thor, think carefully. What do you truly want to protect?"

After Eden spoke, he gave Loki a look, gesturing for Loki to follow him.

"What I truly want to protect?"

Thor looked up at the sky, then down at his hammer. He sat down on the ground and stared at the hammer, talking to himself. "There are too many things I want to protect. I want to protect Asgard, protect my mother and father, and protect Midgard too."

Not far away.

"Heh."

Loki followed Eden's footsteps. When they reached a secluded corner, he smiled and looked at Eden. "May I ask what the esteemed Lord of Midgard wants with me?"

Yes, Loki was quite perceptive. After seeing Eden negotiate directly with Odin and force him to compromise, Loki had already defined Eden in his heart as the master of all Midgard, and thus treated him with utmost respect.

Eden looked at Loki and smiled. "Don't be nervous. I just happen to have a task for you."

Loki gave Eden a sincere promise. "I'm listening. I guarantee I'll complete it."

Eden nodded with a smile. "Good. I won't do anything to you—after all, I'm not some indiscriminate killer. As long as you don't betray me, don't betray Earth, and don't do anything harmful to Earth, I won't kill you."

Eden patted Loki's shoulder and smiled.

"Gulp."

Loki swallowed instinctively. He could tell Eden wasn't lying—if he caused any major incidents, Eden would really kill him.

At the same time, Loki also knew that with Eden's power, he could indeed kill him despite any pressure from Asgard.

"Besides, the task I'm giving you should be quite easy for you."

Eden continued.

"Wh-what task?"

Loki looked at Eden and asked tentatively.

"Use your illusion magic to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and climb the ranks by any means necessary."

Eden looked deeply at Loki, then said softly.

"Uh."

"That's it?"

Loki froze for a moment. He glanced back at the group of agents who called themselves S.H.I.E.L.D., roughly understanding what kind of organization it was. He looked at Eden and asked, "Are there any restrictions? I mean, is there anything I can't do freely?"

Eden explained, "Killing. Besides killing people and causing destruction, you can do whatever you want."

After hearing Eden's so-called restrictions, Loki felt like there were no restrictions at all. "Killing? Destruction? You're joking. I'm not Thor. Ahem. I mean, I'm the God of Mischief, not the God of Thunder."

Eden said, "Go, Loki. I hope you'll bring me good news. Don't disappoint me." Then he left on his own.

"Let me first look at this so-called S.H.I.E.L.D.'s organizational structure."

After watching Eden leave, Loki used a computer to study Midgard's knowledge.

About five minutes later, Loki seemed to understand everything. He stroked his chin while muttering to himself, "So, the highest authority over this S.H.I.E.L.D. agent organization should be the president of one of Midgard's nations, this country called America, right?"

"Looks like my target is quite clear."

Loki said.

Yes, between being the head of some agents or becoming the ruler of a mortal nation in Midgard—which would be more interesting to the God of Mischief, Loki? Wasn't that obvious?

Loki thought: Suddenly my divine life has become interesting again! Being king of a mortal nation doesn't seem bad at all. Better than my idiot brother just being a thug.

Yes, as long as there was something to compare himself to, Loki felt immensely satisfied.

Elsewhere.

After handling the matters in Mexico and with Asgard, Eden returned to New York.

"Eden, meet at Peter Parker's house at 7 PM tonight to help me build the Death Star (a Star Wars LEGO set)."

Eden had barely caught his breath after returning to New York when he received a message from Ned.

"Okay."

Eden glanced at the message and replied "okay."

Even though he was a superhero who protected his world, daily life still had to go on.

Thinking this, Eden returned to his apartment, cleaned up briefly, played with his cat for a while, then headed to Peter Parker's house.

Oh, and on his way to the Parkers', Eden didn't forget to buy a box of pastries and two pizzas.

Yes, to prevent himself from eating something that looked exquisite and beautiful but tasted strange and weird at the Parkers' house.

Therefore, Eden decided it would be better to prepare the food for the gathering in advance on his way there.

"Ding dong."

Eden rang the Parker household doorbell.

Shortly after, when May opened the door and saw it was Eden, she immediately smiled. "Hey, Eden! Are you here to see Peter? He's out right now doing something, but could you wait in his room for him?"

"Sure."

Eden smiled and presented the gifts he'd prepared. "These are pastries I bought for you, Aunt May. And here's pizza for Peter, Ned, and me to eat later."

Of course, that's what Eden said, but he'd actually bought three pizzas total—clearly he'd bought Aunt May's portion in advance too.

May looked at the food Eden brought. She seemed to think of something, the corners of her mouth turning up as she teased, "Look at you, bringing food to Aunt May's house? Are you saying you don't like Aunt May's cooking?"

Eden cleared his throat and waved his hands. "Ahem. Of course not. I still miss the cherry pie you made, Aunt May. If possible, I'd like to take one home."

As May spoke, she placed the food Eden brought in the living room, then bustled off to the kitchen, muttering, "I knew you liked Aunt May's cooking. Forget one cherry pie—take home an apple pie and a pineapple pie too when you leave. Damn it, I think I smell something burning."

Eden took it all in and muttered to himself, "Sorry, Fat Orange. Looks like you're out of luck."

Yes, perhaps Kryptonian taste buds were too weak, but Eden always felt the power of May's cherry pie was no less than the damage kryptonite dealt to adult Kryptonians.

So there was no way Eden could eat the crude delicacies May specially made for him, but throwing them away would be wasteful and would waste May's thoughtfulness.

In conclusion, Eden's super brain gave him an answer.

Yes, he could only make things hard on Fat Orange.

Evening.

When Peter Parker returned home later, he greeted them excitedly. "Hey! Eden, Ned! Oh man, you guys bought pizza and drinks—that's awesome!"

Ned called out, "Less talking, Peter. Come help us assemble the Death Star."

"Coming, coming! Let me just put down my backpack."

They spent a pleasant evening together.

The next morning.

Eden received another message from Nick Fury.

More accurately, Nick Fury personally stood guard outside Eden's apartment building, waiting until Eden woke up, just to deliver the message.

"The situation isn't optimistic, Eden."

As Eden came out to take out the trash, Nick Fury caught up with him and said loudly.

Eden walked downstairs, tossed the trash into the bin, then turned to look at Nick Fury and asked, "Did Loki and Coulson turn traitor? That's probably Loki's idea—just grab them and beat them up and everything will be fine."

"That's not it."

Nick Fury froze, then shook his head.

"Then did Captain America freeze to death?"

Eden continued.

"No."

Sweat broke out on Nick Fury's forehead.

Clearly, different people had different concepts of what constituted a crisis.

At that moment, Eden looked up. After confirming Tony Stark had no major issues, he turned to Nick Fury and asked in confusion, "Stark Industries doesn't seem to have any problems either. I just saw Stark on a date with Miss Potts. So what exactly happened?"

Nick Fury looked somewhat embarrassed as he spoke. "It's S.H.I.E.L.D., Eden. S.H.I.E.L.D. is full of moles. Ever since you had Phil Coulson give me that hint, I've been investigating. The final results gave me a splitting headache."

Even he had never imagined that the mighty S.H.I.E.L.D. had unknowingly become an enemy stronghold.

S.H.I.E.L.D. should really be renamed H.Y.D.R.A.—it was crawling with Hydra members, to the point where Nick Fury now trusted no one.

If Eden hadn't had Phil Coulson hint to Nick Fury about Hydra, he probably would have even suspected Coulson's identity.

Therefore, after Nick Fury compiled the chilling results of his investigation, he had no choice but to personally drive hundreds of miles from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in Washington to Eden's apartment in New York to tell him the news in person.

Yes, Nick Fury no longer trusted any technological devices.

"I understand."

Hearing this, Eden nodded and smiled. "This is actually quite easy to handle."

Nick Fury frowned, looking at Eden with some doubt. "You're saying this is easy to handle? Eden, you don't know how deeply S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated."

Eden stated plainly, "Heh, just leave it to me. Nick, right now, immediately gather all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s high-level agents together. Tell them you're holding an important meeting. Then, this matter will be resolved."

The corner of Nick Fury's eye twitched. "Just like that? Eden, you're not planning to kill them all, are you?"
