I have so many complicated feelings towards Dan and I feel like trying to put them in writing is just going to come out confusing so I won’t even try. BUT one little theory I have for why a lot of people sympathize extra with Dan is because of Yok. We love Yok so much. He is such a gem both in how he looks at world but also people. He trusts Dan entirely which makes us want to trust Dan entirely because we want what’s best for Yok. I wonder if I would have liked Dan as a character that much if it wasn’t for his connection to Yok, I personally don’t think so. It’s absolutely so much more complicated than that but I personally think that plays a role in it. Honestly this show and the complexity of the characters is on another level. I don’t think I can think of any one dimensional character… even the “bad guys” aren’t portrayed as straight up evil. As someone who loves character arcs more than plot a lot of the time I love it, but it also stirrs up so many conflicting emotions. The fact that our twins are named Black and White gets more and more ironic as the show goes on 😂

2025-04-09 11:23:46 +0000 UTCI know Dan slides into a 'betrayal' role here, but if you look deeper, it was probably his 'partner' that gave him up and then the whole plan was laid bare. That older guy (probably a high-up government official) basically threatened his parents if he didn't go along (that comment about 'send someone to talk to your parents' was not about talking). Dan would also have known that if he didn't help and arrest the gang, they were likely to get killed rather than arrested. He was trying to salvage something out of what could have been the end of all of them.
