Our Youth | Episode 6-7

Our Youth | Episode 6-7

Comments

These two episodes are gut wrenching. At first I felt relieved that the father passed but then when Hirukawa expressed guilt & blamed himself those feelings instantly left me. And while I know his feelings of guilt or blaming himself will pass I actually don’t feel good about being happy that his father died. Whether he was abusive or not. It’s not good to wish death on anyone but when you see something like that especially when someone is being harmed I guess it’s only human to feel this way. When I originally watched this I watched it with my mother & she just instantly cried when Hirukawa’s died because she knew he’d blame himself. Also without absolving the father from accountability I do have to acknowledge that the abuse is lead by alcoholism & that is an illness within itself. Addiction is scary. The situation is just awful for all parties involved. This series is filled with a lot “he should do this” & “he should do that”!!! When ultimately Hirukawa was doing the best that he could with the cards he was dealt without putting other people in harms way. He’s really selfless. I wish that in episode 6 when he had the altercation with the friend they would’ve elaborated on their friendship & what he meant by Hirukawa taught him those things. And the emotional breakdown he also had in bar when Hirukawa confronted him. I feel like the friend has some deep rooted issues as well. A little enlightenment on that character would’ve been nice because during that scene it was hard for me to determine whether to dislike him or not because while he did act like a dick that breakdown when fighting with Hirukawa told another story.

These two are dealing with things far bigger than any high school kid should ever have to face. I’ve rewatched this show several times, but every time I get to this part, I still feel so stressed. 😭🤣 There’s just something about this show that makes you really connect with and feel for these characters. You just want them to be happy. The actors were amazing, and the writing is heartbreakingly beautiful.
