I'm really happy to have kicked off this project with this first design. While experimenting with shape language, function, colours, iconography, texture, rendering technique, etc. I exposed some things I'll want to avoid (Like drawing hundreds of rivets on each design) and established a solid foundation on which I can build. Simplifying the final layout and focusing on the design will also save me some tedious work in the long run!

As you can see, I chose to revisit a different sketch and change up the legs to give the machine a more dynamic, staggered stance. I think the broken cameras and long antennae add a more friendly appearance to the head and are also reminiscent of a gazelle's big eyes and long horns. Some bullet holes, wear, and spray paint add a bit of storytelling and age to the machine.

I hope you like the design as much as I do and can't wait to finish up her pilot and move to the next one!
