First Renders | Behind the Scenes

Hey everyone!

Working with 3D rendering software can be intimidating, especially in the beginning when you feel like you have absolutely no idea what you're doing. So I thought I'd share some of my first renders with you to give you an idea of my own learning process.

Humble beginnings

Let me introduce you to Jason. He's the result of my very first session during which I figured out the basics of 3D rendering in DAZ. After playing around with the controls a bit, I learned how to give Jason hair, provided him with some clothes and got him to take his (and my) first step into the world of 3D art. Even if that step still only led into a void at this point.

Setting the scene

Granted, any interior designer would franticly chase me out of the village for ruining the charm of a perfectly good rustic hut by placing a modern desk and bench in it – and they certainly would be right to do it. But dear Chris here needed something to sit on to teach this little guy a lesson and he doesn't seem too picky about his seating arrangement. In any case, this is where I learned how to work with scenery and props to create a general setting. This was also the first time I included a tiny person for Chris to play with. I wondered how far I could actually take the size difference. Plus, I had yet to fiddle with the lighting controls to add atmosphere to the scene.

First Light

To indulge my curiosity, I placed two absolutely tiny guys on this giant's midsection. I also put in a spotlight to tweak my way around the lighting controls. Even though the lighting looks rather harsh around the edges, I was quite pleased with the outcome of this first lighting attempt.

Practice makes perfect

With all the basics covered, it was time to practice what I had learned so far. In order to go the extra mile, I gathered ideas and suggestions from friends to create characters and little scenes to go with them, aimed at expanding my skill set. Take Adan here for example. He's the first character with a darker skin colour I created after finding out how to do it properly.
