Oh gosh! I really hope it's not cancer. Best wishes! I suppose I can't ask you to take a break if this is your income source, but I hope you're able to get some rest. You deserve peace and rest

BlockCheddar

It's for the best. Only peace and love on patreon though ♥️

Courtney

Yeah, the warning appeased one person, with the others saying it was inadequate. At this point I don’t even look at the comments for the comic.

Sean Carter

Exactly right. There's nothing I can say that will make this "right" in there heads. The vast majority of readers are not even viewing the comments or getting involved. Ultimately I'm regretting even adding the warning but I won't be saying anything else. They just need to stop reading if they aren't enjoying it. Ive thought about turning off comments for the next month or so but I don't want them hunting me down on other social media. They just need to yell into the void until they get bored of it.

Courtney

It's an internet classic, the out-of-control self-supporting narrative bubble. First you get a few people who get an extreme idea in their heads completely unsupported by the actual work ("Olive is effectively unconscious" or "Olive is being denied medical treatment" etc). They interpret every subsequent event through that warped lens never re-examining whether it makes sense. Next others who weren't paying much attention get on the bandwagon with them. They pool their ideas, ignore the meagre criticism from the few who can be bothered, and now it becomes independent from reality as A Thing. Since the author won't want to deal with a big stinky ball of crap they didn't even make and most of the audience is just having fun with it and don't care, they'll get frustrated and enter the Can't Believe Nobody is Addressing This stage, huffing about the author's moral failings. It doesn't matter what you say to them, it exists only in their heads. They're the good guys fighting injustice. And if they started from a premise founded in reality it would be true. Therefore this premise won't be questioned. Relatively few will argue with them because nobody wants the drama or bad vibes in what is normally cute and fun. And in this particular case arguing with them makes you look like a huge tool and you'll definitely get downvoted to oblivion. Being critical about these kinds of accusations has negative connotations and for good reason. Finally, after it dies down, some of them re-read the story they once loved and are mystified they can't find what the bubble was so angry about. They silently pretend it never happened. The world turns...

Spatial

Gosh I didn't take it that way at all! I swear people are so weird these days. Don't listen to them, your stories are beautiful

BlockCheddar

All good! I do appreciate the concern ♥️

Courtney

Understood. I won’t bring this up to you any further. I apologize for bothering you and hope you have a quick recovery.

One last thing, I just got off of non stop travel with back to back cons with my dominant arm shoulder broken and I've been working non stop. I can't remember the last time I had a day off of work. I have looming MRI scans at the end of the month to make sure I don't have bone cancer and to find out if I need surgery that will mess with my ability to draw for an unknowable about of time. im the sole income earner in my household so all of this has been weighing very heavily on me. Ive been having daily anxiety attacks since I got the news about my health and I just don't have the mental capacity to entertain these Webtoon commenters. Its just so unserious to me when compared with everything else going on in my life. I barely sleep at night because of the pain I'm in + the worry over my health.

Courtney

Not to mention all the interactions I've been having with people off of Webtoon (whether this be online or in person at events) about the current arc have been absolute delight and enjoyment. To each their own, as they say.

Courtney

I've added a content warning at the beginning of the segment and stated that I added it in the update scheduled to go live on Tuesday. People are WELCOME to unsubscribe if this has been making them uncomfortable. In fact I urge them to control their own reading experience. I can't control people's interpretation of my work. If Callie taking olive into the bathroom for her to suck her blood in a more private setting is triggering for them I'm not gonna invalidate that but I don't PERSONALLY consider what Callie is doing SA. Once again as someone who was SA'ed I don't find this triggering for me. I find what happens to ty in big cats (actual SA off screen) to be way more triggering but it's a part of her story and I'm not gonna take that out either. If it's too much just stop reading and the people in the comments saying they are gonna unsubscribe are in the minority and once again, welcome to do so!

Courtney

I really think you should say something. Half the readers on Webtoons are in revolt and accusing you of simply turning this into smut and glamorizing SA. Again, I am not one of them, but I feel like you need to make a statement because the point of ignoring this is long passed. Again, this is your desecration but with how many people are saying they are going to unsubscribe it would really hurt your reader base.

Sean Carter

She’s got that lust for red in her eyes 😍

STARM

Anymore the comments section of many comics seem to be nothing but problematic, at least in part

Sean Carter

Thanks for trying to go to bat for me genuinely! This is actually one of the reasons I had to stop reading Webtoon comments many years ago. I stand by this section of comic not needing a warning. There is nothing graphic being depicted just acts of manipulation. If it continues I can say something but I'd rather not give it any attention honestly.

Courtney

I was only saying something because, again, other readers were heaping criticism about you not saying anything or posting some kind of warning before the arc began

Sean Carter

Oh I know, I tried to argue in defense of you and your freedom to write. But they were met with completely negative responses by other readers.

Sean Carter

This is genuinely cracked to me I'm sorry. If you think I am trying to glamorize SA, first of all Im not and would never as an SA victim. Callie has ALWAYS been one of my more dubious characters. She literally sells love potions? She is not a role model, she is manipulative and controlling. She always has been throughout the entire story. I didn't think I had to spell it out letter by letter that part of why Callie likes olive so much is because she is so head over heels it's easy for Callie to get her way. Stories require conflicts and if this content is triggering to you then I urge you to take a step back and stop reading. I will not be making a statement or anything like that I do not think it is warranted. I personally do not find it healthy for myself to engage in the Webtoon comic section unless there are people being openly phobic trans or otherwise. I've had people claim that I've shoehorned in olive as trans when I've been writing and drawing her trans since her introduction to the story. Once again if something in the story is triggering you or making you uncomfortable, you do not have to read and I urge you not to if that's the case.

Courtney

I feel it necessary to say that you should probably issue a statement addressing the last few chapters of Dragon Girlfriend, as some people are saying you’re trying to glamorise SA.
