Imagine being diagnosed with Cancer. Living everyday with that diagnosis, to the point where every decision and every ache and pain reminds you of it. Now imagine 5 years later, your Doctor simply walks in and proclaims "Opps, my Bad. You're perfectly fine. Always were."
Many of you ( if not all ) have probably wondered what the hell happened to me. Where have I been the last few months?
For the last 5 years, I've been struggling with what I thought was heart disease. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic and about 50 lbs. overweight. The threat of heart disease and an imminent and almost inevitable heart attack was ever present. Every doctor visit it was the main topic of discussion, Every day my wife feared that I was one tragic event away from making her a widow.
Every time I felt a soreness, a pain in my shoulder, a shortness of breath, it was attributed to my heart condition. I've suffered with bouts of depression, feeling as if I'm living on borrowed time.
3 weeks ago, fearing my condition was accelerating, my Dr ordered an Echo Cardiogram stress test. They covered by Dad bod in sensors and stuck me on a treadmill without a shirt in front of a room full of nurses to jog for 3-5 minutes on a steep incline. I made it through. But the sonogram they took of my heart came back "abnormal", which either means I've got something seriously wrong with my heart or they simply screwed up the camera work.
Fearing it was my heart, they rushed me to a cardiologist who got me in for a Cardiac Catheter. They shave your groin, inject dye into the largest vein in your body, a direct line from the thigh to your heart. To see if there are any abnormalities in my veins, blockages, fucking Goblins for all I know. If they do fine something they are ready to immediately put me under and insert stints or even perform angioplasty.
No pressure, right.
I'm in the x-ray/ operating room less then 45 minutes, they wheel me back to the room and the Cardiologist comes in to tell me, "Your heart is perfectly healthy. There are no signs of damage. You've had no strokes or cardiac episodes. Your arteries are perfectly clear and show no blockages or sings of any build up."
Imagine being that relieved and that upset all at the same time. This has haunted my life for years, always in the back of my mind. Sometimes so overwhelming, I shut down entirely. Over something that wasn't even there.
Over the last 2 days while I recovered from the Heart Cath I've been looking into old work and projects and realized I've missed posting about a dozen projects over the last year or so that just fell through the cracks or had the misfortune of being drawn on weeks my "condition" got the better of me.
I'll be posting these old pieces ( we'll call them vintage ) as well as a large and steady slate of new ones, over the coming months. The speed and frequency of work is going to pick up as well. If you stuck with me through this, Thanks. If you called it quits, I don't blame you.
But I'm going to be working to get this back on track.
And hey, more titties...
Sin-cerely,
Deuce
