Good morning moon babes! With Samhain approaching I wanted to share a littler about the sabot and how to celebrate, ( for those who want to!) I will create and post a corresponding tarot spread for Samhain and have that posted before the celebrations begins!

What is Samhain?

Samhain is a centuries old celtic tradition that marks the midpoint between the summer and winter solstice and is also known as the festival of the dead. Samhain directly translates to summer's end, and marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of the darker winter days. Celebrations for Samhain begin on October 31st and continue through November 2nd. In celtic tradition celebrations would light bonfires as an integral part of their celebrations, these bonfires are said to have cleansing and protective properties. Families would spend the days harvesting the last of their crops and then attend the Samhain festivals at night. They would also leave out offerings for the fae in hopes that their families and livestock would be kept safe through the long winter months

Those that celebrate this time believe that this night is when the veil between the spiritual and physical world is lowered. This would allow for interaction between the living and the dead, ancestors can visit their loved ones but negative spirits can also cause trouble for the townspeople. For this reason some of the traditional Samhain rituals would include rituals to welcome and honor ones deceased loved ones. It was also important to take action to protect yourself and your space from the negative spirits that are also able to come through at this time.

What can you do to celebrate?

Ancestor Work!!

During this time one of the main ways to celebrate is to connect with your ancestors. Starting with setting up an ancestor altar and beginning shadow work with them. It's even as easy as putting up photos and learning some anstoral stories that have been passed down through your family. You can make meals that are important to your family, and leave some out as an offering to those that have passed.

Protection

It's also important to make sure that you are protected from the negative spirits that are able to come through at this time. Make sure to protect yourself and your space from those that wish to bring you harm. I will also attach some links to some past posts that I've created for protection.

Divination

This is a great time to practice divination! Connect with your ancestors through divination and reflect on the past year and look at the year ahead.

Reflect on the cycles of life and death

Take a nature walk and take in the life cycles of nature around you. Or visit a cemetery and pay respects to those that have passed while recognizing the cycles of life around you.
