A Plant For The Ancestors
Good morning moon babes! Happy Sunday!!! Today I wanted to share a plant offering and ward I have set up on my altar and showed a few weeks ago on social media.
I know a week or two ago I showed another version of this with a pothos plant and a love spell, this will be for your ancestors health, abundance, wisdom, and as a living offering. This way you can visibly watch the plant both grow and blossom, but also if there's anything going on with the plant in the long run you can use that as a visual representation and warning that you might need to change some things up in your practice. This is something you can do for any spirit or deity, not just your ancestors! I do recommend swapping the plant out for something more suitable for that specific deity or spirit/ but I find that most spirits love this offering. This is another amazing way to get more plant allies in your spiritual teams, working close with the plant spirit.
Once I decided I wanted this plant to be dedicated to my ancestors I pulled cards asking what energy they wanted the plant to hold spiritually. You could do a simple 1 -3 card spread asking for the overall energy and attributes they are looking for from this plant and offering and researching from there. My ancestors chose the Chinese evergreen plant, researching about them I found that spiritually they offer good fortune, prosperity, wisdom, offer fresh and clean energy to the space, and they are known to bring in good luck. Chinese evergreen plants are slow growing, and have a super long lifespan for houseplants, making this the perfect choice for my altar plant.
I researched a nursery near me that normally stocked this plant and meditated with my ancestors at their altar for a while. This whole moment from the time I leave in my car till the plant is ready on the altar is part of my devotional act and I plan the ritual out with them. Once ready head to the store and get your new plant ally. When going into the plant store, spend time with each one in the section, allowing your ancestors and spirit to guide you to the right plant. I picked up a few that didn't feel like “the one” before picking up one that just felt like family. Truly, smiling brightly, holding it thank the plant even before you buy it, its been growing and trying so hard to get to even the point where it sold on a shelf to find its way to you. Paying for it is another offering for your spirits, spending your hard earned money on an offering and living thing for them.
Bring your plant bby home and gather your supplies to repot it out of the nursery pot into a more suitable home. Make sure you spiritually cleanse the pot your plant will ive in now, I like to do this with smoke, then running clean water. I added a drop of ancestor oil to my hands and anointed the outside of the pot with the oil. Then inside the bottom of the new pot I put a small hagstone as a taglock for this plant, I am working a water protection ward with the hagstone into the plant so that if anything happens the hagstone takes the negative energy or work first, transmuting the energy before it can even affect the plant. Program your hagstone or your tether you're planning on using before you place it into the plant, I also painted the sigil I created a while ago for my ancestors into the bottom of the pot to further the spiritual connection between the plant, my ancestors, and myself.
From here I repotted my plant in front of my altar, laid a new offering of fresh coffee for my ancestors and spoke with my ancestors as I worked on their new plant. Take this time to connect with them further, catch up with them, listen to anything they want to offer, lessons, wisdom, advice as you plant and work with soil. Grounding yourself as you work on this offering and plant ally. Once your plant is in its new pot you can simply place it on the altar with a prayer to your ancestors and light an incense to feed the spirit of the plant, or continue on to the next step.
I like holding “welcome” ceremonies for new spiritual tools in my practice, a warm beautiful welcome to my space and to my team, thanking the item for joining me in my journey and offering energy and abundance to the item I am planning on utilizing going forward. I notice when I do this with new items they quickly integrate into my team rather than sometimes when I do not it takes a while to mend with new energy often. I do this by creating a spiritual insight and wisdom ritual for the plant and my ancestors.
Things I used and why:
-Green Sea Glass - Wisdom, luck, prosperity, Healing, renewal, water element.
-Wormwood - intuition, divination, banishing.
-Cornflower - for love, abundance, third eye work
-Marshmallow Root -
-Yarrow - banish negative energy in the space or plant/ on the altar and a confidence boost.
-Ancestor Oil
-Motherwort - divination aspects, protraction, and calling spirits.
-Skullcap - for protection during workings, attracting money, and de stressing energy.
-Calendula - for spiritual growth
-Purple candle - for spiritual insight and wisdom
-White candle - this is a hoodood thing, the hoodoo bbys get it, for those that dont you can leave this out.
-2 jingle shells - I like adding jingles for my ancestors because were so closely tied to the sirens and mermaid spirits who adore the beauty and allure of them. You can replace this with whatever element your spirits appreciate.
-I piece of raw aquamarine
-Shells for the top of the plant
I cleansed all of my candles, etched my ancestors sigil into the purple candle, dressing it with my ancestor oil then activate all of the above herbs and crystals, dressing the candle with a blend of the herbs. Laying a thin layer of herbs on a fireproof dish to put under the candle. Spending time to pray with my ancestors as I work and finally placing the candles on the altar with the plant and offering it to them, lighting the candles for the ancestors and your new plant ally and working with the energy of the flame, praying with the new plant spirit and your ancestors until the chime candle burns out. Once your ritual is done pay close attention to your plant for the next few days, see how it reacts to being on your altar, I noticed almost after one night the leaves were pinker, prettier and shiny. Happy. Each time you water it pray with your plant, prune the plant, offer it incense and candles weekly or monthly to keep the spirit of the plant high, and involve it in your workings moving forward!
I hope some of you guys try this out, if you do let me know what kind of plant you end up picking any why!
XOXO Anastasia.
