In AD 61, the praefectus urbi (roughly chief of police) Lucius Pedanius Secundus was murdered by one of his slaves. According to Tacitus, the motive was either that Pedanius did not keep his promise to let the slave buy his freedom, or (maybe more interesting) because of rivalry between master and slave about a pretty young slave boy.
