I came a bit late but still want to let you know that Shinpachi got the 8th place in 6 out of 7 popularity polls - it's a mix of coincidence and fans intentionally controlling it cause 'pachi' is 8 in Japanese. In the only other case he got 7, slightly above Kamui, clearly they failed to manage it this time lol

2024-08-23 19:46:44 +0000 UTCMost of Gintama characters are based on very famous japanese historical figures, including all the shinshengumis, Katsura, Sakamoto, Takasugi and his kiheitai, sacchan, kyuubei, the shoguns, and a lot of more characters ahead. That's why hijikata told us they received a lot of complaints regarding how they twist the story of these rl characters here and there and often times messing up with the kids history lesson at school lmao

Like Zenzou and Matsudaira being so low, and Hasegawa not even in top 10 blows my mind. This is only second out of 6 popularity polls. Gintoki is always 1st, while Hijikata and Okita are usually 2nd and 3rd interchangeably. Also, why is Takatin so low?

Also if you're wondering why people like sakamoto got high rank when he's barely have screen time, I have to agree with otae, some of them capitalizing from their real life version of them (sakamoto ryoma is a beloved hero in jpn, shinshengumi is so popular etc). Sorachi hates popularity poll, hence this arc, showing how frustrating popularity poll is lol

The legendary paint opening, the animators drew it with their non-dominant hands, they must've have fun lol (that's why I always recommend to watch the OP cause when you're familiar with it, you goes crazy when they "twist" it lol).
