In general, if you are subscribing through an iOS or Android app downloaded from the Apple or Google store, Apple or Google is taking a large cut of the transaction (15 or 30%!). Apple and Google both try to prevent users from obtaining apps outside their stores. Some platforms eat the costs and others pass it on to users, but they usually don't tell users about it. You can (and probably should) subscribe using a web browser on your phone instead of the app. It's cheaper and only hurts Apple and Google.
