The Nest

One of the things I enjoy about running RPGs now vs when I ran RPGs as a teen is that I can MAKE my own damn resources now. I grew up playing theater of the mind style games, rarely did we even have maps. We kept that shit in our heads like savages.

But now! Now when I want to paint a scene for players, I can literally do that. Not for every moment, of course. Too much of a game is winging it. You can't anticipate every move the players will make. But some moments get themselves a little speed paint and I think they really up the experience.

Same here. Back when I started 2nd edition D&D in the 90s, we didn't have battlemaps or session zeroes. Nor did we have lots of online resources for character art. But I'm glad these things exist now. We used to have lots of debates about positioning in combat... and sometimes arguments about the direction of a campaign that could have been avoided with a well timed session zero. And it's easy to draw a world map or design a character now.

Now this is where using a flamethrower would have been a good idea... But NO, Someone, just had to get close/poke the thing... now they've got a Face Full Of Alien Wing Wong (yes, that's what's the Troupe's called πŸ˜…)
