THE LAST OF US PART 2 (2020) | [ALL CUTSCENES - PART 3!!] | PAST & PRESENT!

It's time for the other side of the coin, ABBY'S PAST!!

I was not expecting this side of the story and I'll be honest, it's left me with a whole range of emotions with a conclusion I was not expecting myself to feel. Damn video games, chill out!!

Question time... Are you a fan of Abby and did you enjoy playing as her? I know my answer...

Enjoy part III guys,

Kai

P.S. I watched the whole love making scene and dream sequence after the video, I decided to not include it due to it's length. It was basically Abby's boobs/pecs and the children hanging. If it was a lengthy section I would have included it for the Patreon but I can see why GLP removed it for their YouTube upload.

Abby is a bad person. No one can do what she does to Joel and not feel any remorse except a complete psychopath. Ellie is rattled to her core after killing Nora and Mel.

Cameron

"Ellie would've also chosen yes." Yeah she would've which makes it even more stupid that they didn't wake her up and ask her. They had nothing to lose by asking her first, if you are gonna murder her anyway then it doesn't matter if she says no. Abby's dad is a coward who wants to murder her in her sleep so he can justify it to himself that it's a good thing.

Cameron

I just find it fascinating that ppl really only compare ellie to abby and vice versa...id say abby and joel is the more obvious mirror. Both had to take on an obligation to protect a child within this world, one whod been rejected frm his society, the other would be torn to shreds out of desperation by her community. Both are introduced losing essentially half of their entire family/heart, the only difference being sarah's death was just another casualty of the outbreak, esspecially those who died not by clickers, but by people, madness, hysteria, out of control mobs and no ems or police, her death was abrupt but had no maliece, abbys dad however was a premeditTED murder w/o a doubt with malice (assuming you killed all the doctors in the room....because like the nice lady loud npc says to joel "YOUR AN ANIMAL". Joel isoltaes himself and shuns the world besides his brother who he eventually falls out with, and a situationship with tess tht was clearly crumbling more everytime they re kindled. Abby on th other hand throws herself into the fireflies mission and being part of something greater, eventually moving on to the Washington Liberation Front. Most noteworthy is how long it took for joel to open up and accept and see ellie, to love her, and to see her as anything other than nuisance, hinderance, and obligation that he not only did not ask for or knwingly agree too, but from his POV, the diretors of this immunity cure firefly objective are dead, or presumed dead before ellie and joel even leave ol' Mass'. While their bond is very real it takes almost 3/4 of the journey and multiple near death instances to get them on a path to being family and eventually a team as ellie gets older. (stuff mostly featured in flashbacks and easter egg comics). Abby though....she acknowledges Lev nd Yaras skills IMMEDIATELY, she doesnt chastie them or belittle tem for being children or part of a potentially dangerous group, a literal ideology infested cult. She doesnt belittle their reasons for running away, or for Lev's choices. She acknodlweges that they saved her life and her own moral code demands she halp save theirs, at least in the immediate. Its a super quick jump from a team born from abby's own internal moral line in the sand, from actively engging and wanting to understand the iblings lives before fleeing, joel we know reepeatd=edly told ellie to keep our histories to ourselves. There are way more examples, but if we're considering a parent child bond, a mentor mentee bond, or whtas an obligation vs. "the right thing ", love and what it means to befamily and to finally heal....all that makes it pretty evident why ellie and joel never really had a chance of mending their reltionship after she found out the truth, , and that monumental secrt also kept joel from engaging with her the way he had before, something she sensed. If abby hadnt killed him it's possible they could fix the relationship, but it would never be as close or sturdy as the one between abby and lev....

Jessie Brader

I can't say I'd do differently if some smuggler murdered my father.

Zensonar

Roughed my feathers, it was a lot of the way they killed Joel. They literally beat him to death. I don’t remember Joel doing that to the Doc. Kinda messed me up. Didn’t feel it

andr3w

I mean, they allowed a woman getting strangled then taking a hammer to the head a few minutes earlier soooo... Glad you went after it ! And yes, some players actually killed Bear (and added an extra layer of trauma by killing the dogs -all named- while playing as Ellie). You can avoid it though, except for Alice.

Selph

After watching this part I went and found out what they cut.... That sex scene was something and the children hanging, yeah I can see why YouTube wouldn't allow that. Thanks for watching with me fella!! Means a lot.

Kai Zammit

they also cut out a scene right after the intercourse of abby having a dream of her reliving the memory of her running into the room where her dad was killed, but once she opens the door into the room its filled with grass and trees in woods and lev and yara are seen hanging from a nuse. and thats when she wakes up

The boys Tournies

im so happy they cut out the boat scene. a literal scar to the brain for tlou fanbase

The boys Tournies

The last of us has a special place in my heart and i'm honestly glad you're not rushing the videos so that i have something to look forward to.

test123

Why did they cut out bunch of important parts?! that was stupid. I like the reaction tho. still watching it.

ToTo Super Game!

Btw, I'd really love to see your reaction to the TV series and the documentary about the making of this TLOU2 game (called Grounded II). 🙏

S.

It warms my heart so much seeing how much you appreciate the storytelling. I know you would, and still it's always nice to see when people allow themselves to just lose themselves into a story.

S.

Abby's side of the story is beautiful. There's parallels to ellie, and there's parallels to a certain boston smuggler who's humanity was rekindled by a scrappy young gremlin he traveled with. It's understandable to still hate her, but I never did

Rasknitt

Awesome reaction as always. I just wanted to comment to tell you to be wary of reading some comments below. Quite a few spoilers or expectation spoilers down there.

Fredrik IB

Not just that but they cut her dream sequence which is pretty noteworthy imo as she grows as a character. I'm loving these reactions!

Jay

I was kinda just looking forward to what the story is about. So I didn't mind abby's part. Her story is definitely not a bad one, but I dont know if it was one that needed to be told in this game. Because I dont like the fact that Ellie's and Abby's story arent properly connected. For half the game we play as ellie and dont know anything about Abby and then we play as Abby and meet characters that were totally irrelevant for Ellie or either pointlessly die (i mean technically u kinda killed them alreay with ellie so it kills the tension imo) (not all, Lev was cool) I dont know if you've finished watching the whole story but here are some more things so spoilers ahead ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* ******* I do love the story and I think its a much deeper story and I love how Joel's death has these repercussions on Ellie. Joel does a sefless choice at the end of the of the first game and it costs him his relation with Ellie, even tho he is a great dad, and truly cares about her. But then Ellie does some selfless choices and it costs her her relationship with Dina. At the begining this may seems like a revenge story but its a much deeper tale about forgiveness. Ellie didnt forget Joel and it pained her deeply and carried her to an awful path. And at the end she finally remembers to forgive and to let go to start a new life. I thinks it's just beautiful, tho I would ve loved as I said these two protagonists stories to be more intertwined. Also i dont know why they added another faction cult at the very end of the game. It felt a bit rushed, i think those could've also been just one big faction. ******** *********** ********** ******** *********** ********** ******** *********** ********** ******** *********** ********** ******** *********** **********

Davidoff

about the game's length, if youre playing for the first time it would prob take you 30+ hours to finish and the switch to abby happens at about the half point so u basically play abby as much as u play ellie. one more thing that made some ppl hate the game ig, but u really gotta respect it. its a bold choice especially for a second game

BLOOP

I mean, Ellie's story is not about revenge. It's about guilt, greef, trauma and finally forgiveness. She has her own arc from being ready to rebuilt with Joel to dealing with his loss and her inability to process that she never had the chance to do it. And all of that happens under the surface while she's trying to avenge him .Both women's journeys are super interesting and gripping.

Stavros Mayakofsky

@HybridThizzle That is Alice before Owen and Mel, not Bear.

Kiera

I personally loved Abby's story way more than Ellie's, Ellie to me was just annoying and very one dimensional, as she did all her growth in the first game. Abby's story was more engaging and i think its meaning was just better conveyed overall. Revenge to me isn't complex, it's very one dimensional, and that's all Ellie's part was, with very limited growth, it was hyper fixated on revenge. This makes sense though, revenge is an ugly negative emotion to chase, it's meant to be all consuming, but as such there's no real depth of nuance to it. Hence why I prefer Abby's character more, anyway, cant wait for the next video :)

Ever

My first reaction to playing as Abby was ‘I have to play through all 3 days AGAIN to find out what happens at the theatre?!’. But for all the pacing issues it creates, it more than makes up for with the world, character and context building. By the end I was about as invested as I’ve been in a story

Richard White

I have a theory on why this was so controversial, beyond whats been said in these comments. As gamers we’ve seen plenty of good storytelling, but it’s usually done in a fairly straightforward way (3 act structure with a twist). This is one of the only examples I’m aware of where they’ve experimented to this degree with how the story is delivered. If this was a film instead of a game I don’t think there would be the same level of controversy. We’ve seen multi perspective stories with fractured narratives where protagonists are unceremoniously killed off (Pulp Fiction anyone?). But that level of messing with the audience’s perceptions hasn’t been a thing in games before. Just a thought

Richard White

I don’t want to sound like an ar*e licker but as someone with no real film making background, I think you’re doing a bang up job of making the concepts easy to understand. But it’s also really interesting watching someone go through this story relatively clear of preconceptions. Keep it up!

Richard White

I will be playing it! I've got a powerful pc but I'm still tempted to play it on a PS5 (which I don't have). It just looks so much fun to play and then you mix that with the brutality of it, beautiful mix.

Kai Zammit

I don't know how much lighting chat I spoke about, I was to into the hanging scene and how they left our lead character with the camera which made the hanging feel and look worse. Such a clever idea. Always happy to talk about lighting here if I didn't fit enough in within the video.

Kai Zammit

Also yay, we've reached the scars scenes lighting I mentioned last week

Emma Jones

I love the narrative choice of forcing us to sit in the uncomfortable by playing as Abby through the second half when they could have so easily switched back and forth. There are so many moments you'll find if you do decide to play it - it'd be well worth it. Thanks for the entertainment through a house full of flu here, yay.

Emma Jones

the hanging scene was actually the 2nd trailer released for this game, i believe 3 years before it came out. that’s part of why it’s so good, they were taking the rollout of this game very seriously & this was the very first look at what they knew would be a controversial character (not to mention a reputation to uphold regarding storytelling, cinematography, & graphics) i vividly remember sitting down to watch it, & halfway through checking to make sure i was watching a trailer for the right game! obviously at this point abby, the scars, all of it was completely foreign. & i think rather masterfully the trailer ends with the clicker running out of the darkness & straight at the camera to let u know that yes, this is the world of the last of us.

tuesday

I absolutely love this game! Playing as Abbey was one hell of an experience - the writing is top tier. I cant wait for the next episode!

Chad Jordan

WOW cant believe they cut that bit with abby and owen. they had some words and started shoving and fighting basically before gettin frisky

Dylan

The way this game tells its story really surprised me, it breaks with the cliche of having a regular bad guy doing random bad things or even having a bad guy with motivations, abby is not bad at all once you see her story, in an apocaliptic world killing your father and your entire group is a more than valid reason to get revenge, up to this point of the story i think is safe to say that abby is a lesser bad guy than ellie, ellie killed everyone in her path, abby let her and tommy live, excited to see you react to the rest of it

juama zambranoerez

Yeah i read that and deleted my comment. Sorry about that. If I realised you replied to it I would've kept it there.

Yasho

Yeah, you can, but he wasn't sure, the game confirms it later, and you confirmed it before that. I think it's a spoiler. But it's not a big deal, really.

Freddy Montero

I've only watched up until the Christmas flashback, so I don't know if you talk about the stuff later in the vid, but I have a few things I wanna talk about. 1) The person playing has their HUD turned off, including the reticle. The way they are aiming is probably by using a monitor with a built in reticle/crosshair option. 2) The switch to Abby wasn't liked by a lot of players not only because of it being the person who killed Joel, but also because of the pacing and gameplay problems. Often people don't like how it switches to Abby right at a climax in the story, basically going from a hundred down to "zero". And also because the player goes from a fully equipped and upgraded Ellie back to less equipped Abby. But in reality she does get her weapons and upgrades pretty quickly, so it doesn't feel that bad actually playing, it's just the thought at the beginning. 3) The Martyr’s Gate is the place where The Prophet was killed/captured, so it became kind of a sacred place for the Seraphites. Often younger people go there and make wishes which were the papers that you could read. 4) You were talking about there not being that many gameplay differences between Abby and Ellie, but there are quite a bit of them which you can’t really see because the video skips basically all the gameplay sections. Abby is more firearm and hand-to-hand combat focused. For example Ellie has her Stiletto knife which she does her stealth takedowns and melee fights with. She can do a stealth takedown on clickers infinite amount of times, but Abby has to craft a shiv to be able to do that which is also the same system that was in the first game when playing as Joel. They also use different animations which makes them feel distinct. 5) Yes, the Fireflies officially disbanded after what Joel did and killed Marlene. The Salt Lake Fireflies and WLF (Isaac) were friends, that’s why Abby and her friends (The Salt Lake crew) joined the WLF after. I might write about other stuff after I watch the rest later. Hope you’re not sick of my “book” lol

Yasho

I don’t think it’s a spoiler. You just have to put two and two together, and many people arrive at this realization by this point in the game.

redhawk

Came back to read your reply and also happened to spot the description. Kai did watch the scene afterwards, my bad for not reading that first. There are other gameplay moments that I think are important that were missed, but he's said before, gives him something to look forward to when he plays. Just certain moments are too important to miss imo

Oran Kurowski

(I just read the whole description, glad you saw it. Still think the playthrough editor is a criminal) Whoever edited this playthrough is a criminal!! They cut two massively important moments from the boat scene. First cut, Owen says "Cut into 'em? I could torture them until they're crying in their own blood..." and is cut off when Abby pushes him. They have a tussle and the cut picks back up where they pause and begin to kiss. Second cut, the scene continues with the two becoming physically intimate, it's clear they have sex. It then fades to black before fading in with young Abby back in the Firefly hospital. She runs down the same corridor to the operating room where she found her father, instead this time she opens the door to the woods. The camera pans up to show Yara and Lev, the Seraphite children, hanging and gutted. Abby wakes up with a start. This stuff is CRUCIAL to her growth and I'm so mad it was cut (not your fault, I know). If you get the chance, Kai, you should definitely find the scene before continuing. It is quite literally the linch pin in Abby's story.

Oran Kurowski

I've always found it interesting how they play with focal length in the long St. Mary's Pediatric Ward corridor. In the first "nightmare" shot of Abby going down it to find her dad, it's a super wide-angle lens, but this just adds to the horror and disorientation created by the siren and flashing red lights. Other times that the game(s) take us to that corridor, when we're taking a more "objective" view of it as just a hallway, rather than being inside Abby's head/emotions/memory, they use longer focal lengths. It doesn't take long to go from end to end in that corridor in that scene, but it feels like a huge distance has to be/has been traversed. It's not subtle, and it's really powerful. It's one of the things that first jumped out at me on my playthrough. There is another location where they do that, and it has a similar impact.

Steve Maxey

I didn't say it because they game will explain it later and didn't want to spoil it

Freddy Montero

"Is the game long?" If you listen closely to the video you can hear me crying in the background from being 28 hours in and not finished.

Sammxney

Don't worry about not being able to connect to the salt Lake City Crew most people played this section or at least started the section frosting at the mouth with gritted teeth and gripping their remote from straight anger thinking they were going to play maybe half an hour an hour as Abby and only to find out you literally basically are starting the entire game over from her perspective and have to do every day and it's entirety. Man I hate Seattle I love this game but man this made me hate walking through Seattle. But they were very very smart to make sure that you did eventually lock in and buy into the narrative from the other perspective because you have new people to take care of that have nothing to do with the revenge plot

Sammxney

Just to be clear because Kai’s response still indicates confusion, Lev is transgender.

redhawk

It's an odd thing to come to as you're playing how your emotions are shifting and in the end I myself ended up liking Abby. While playing Abby, I realised I also liked playing as her more than Ellie gameplay wise, to me she felt different and like a fresh breath. They discuss this in the making of video, that they had to make completely different style/animations for Abby so it would not feel like playing as a re-skinned Ellie. For me, they succeeded in that. :D When I began my second playthrough, I'll admit I just wanted to rush through the Ellie beginning to begin the Abby play part. x'D

HilleriX

I’d like to add that I think the theme of violence and its impotence for justice, ostensibly threaded throughout the game, is a little overstated in my opinion. The TLoU franchise is all about the personal experiences as they relate to the world. They keep it very focused, the first game is Joel’s story and Ellie serves as the primary mirror for him. This game centers Ellie, with more mirrors (Joel’s memory, friends/lovers, enemies, etc.), perhaps to reflect the frenzy of the immediate aftermath of trauma. I think there is no contest here, the most central theme to the story here is grief. Alright I’m leaving yappersville now

Deadly Orgone Avoider

I won't lie the moment the switch up happened I felt taken aback and didn't really feel like playing as Abby. I paused the game and it took me like 5 minutes before I resumed because I wanted to know what happens next. Not because I was particularly interested in Abby but I needed to see what happens to Ellie. But the more I played the more I got interested in the other side of the story. I am not fully sure when the switch up happened but as it happened with you watching at some point I was just engrossed in the story as a whole. I wanna keep this as spoiler free as possible but Abby is one of my favorite characters in the game and as a whole was a great addition to the story.

Mokiki

Ye, Ellie kills Bear while in the hospital area, and she kills Alice when she's fallen from the vent in the Aquarium.

HilleriX

If you think about how the characters are utilized in this story, you’ll see that they aren’t aiming for multiple characters with their own arcs like in the MCU or a TV show such as The Walking Dead. I think a lot of people see Abby as a personal affront against Ellie when it is anything but. What’s great about Abby is that she (as well as every other character in TLoU2) exists in RELATION to Ellie, that everything she experiences actually informs us of Ellie deepening our empathy for her. The greatest things about Abby are that despite her fundamentally being a supporting character, she’s so fleshed out and living. This in turn only deepens our feelings for Ellie; any feelings we have for Abby reflect on our feelings for Ellie. Just throwing this out there but maybe that confrontation is what makes this game so distressing for many (the hatred though would just be this plus gamer rage lol).

Deadly Orgone Avoider

yeah i was so annoyed that they cut exactly that bit out. could‘ve helped him understand a bit more

sarah

I believe it was cut out of the video you watched. When Ellie breaks into the aquarium, right before killing Mel and Owen, she falls through a vent and attacked by Bear and has to kill him.

HybridThizzle

Yes, unfortunately :( as Ellie fighting WLF there’s a dog you kill. When I first played as Abbie and seen bear as was like wait a minute I killed this dog ;(

PizzaGuyFrank

Oh and also, sorry, yeah, he's a boy

Freddy Montero

Yeah, you'll hear more about that later

Freddy Montero

Will I find out why they call him Lily? So it is a boy then?

Kai Zammit

That's awesome and oh no, we did kill Bear!?!

Kai Zammit

They cut out a small conversation between Lev and Abby where Lev asks Abby if she heard what they called him. In reference to them shouting Lily. I think it's kind of important as to what it implies. Lev: did you hear what they called me? Abby: yeah Lev: do you want to ask me about it? Abby: do you want me to ask you about it? Lev: no Abby: okay

Freddy Montero

There’s something I wanted to mention about something you said in the first game, you said it would be cool if the enemy’s shouted out their friends name when you killed them. Because there’s not much gameplay shown in the video this actual does happen a bit while you are fighting people throughout the game. Ex. that dog you met in this video name “bear”, before as Ellie you kill an enemy dog and the wlf soldiers will say something like “They killed bear!” Or something along those lines. To be clear this also happens to people where they’ll be like “Holy fuck she killed Dan!” or something haha!

PizzaGuyFrank

To be honest I hated the guts of Abby on my first run. Of course because she offed Joel and moreover in such dishonest and worse than animal way. It was just pain to play as her first time... But on my next playthrough I actually thought about the whole situation without emotions and got what writers wanted to say with the whole story of the game and I love it. For Abby I don't hate her anymore, but as well don't love her. Still Ellie is above, but I understand Abby and is okay character with nice development arch.

Michal Breza

was a bit on the fence about playing abby at first, but now i love her

sarah

On my first playhrough, I hated playing as Abby and her as a character. But I think that was the whole point, because after many playthroughs now, I really like her
