THE LAST OF US PART 2 (2020) | [ALL CUTSCENES - PART 4!!] | THE END!

This is it, this is the video where all those story threads finally come to an end. This is THE END!

Thank you so much guys for introducing this game franchise to me and hanging out with me for this brutal, emotional journey. Right then.... What story world are you suggesting to me next!?! Keep an eye out for the upcoming poll, remember you have the power to steer this ship, preferably not into a wall! :D

Enjoy the last video guys,

Kai

THE LAST OF US PART 2 (2020) | [ALL CUTSCENES - PART 4!!] | THE END!

Comments

I read all comments and to answer your question, I will be playing these games. It's made me want to get a PS5 so I can experience it the way you guys did. I very much had a blast with this game and I'm lucky enough I can fill in a lot of the blanks. Thank you so much for watching and hanging out with me Sophie.

Kai Zammit

It’s been a month since you put this video out so you probably won’t read this but I want to say one last thing. I do really hope you’ll play this game for yourself. This channel has cut out so much content, which I understand, because this game is really fucking long, but a lot of the combat moments or world exploration moments can set the whole tone for a cutscene in ways you may not expect. One of the worst was the way the fight between Ellie and Abby in the theater was shown. It really looks like an Ellie beat-down, but the gameplay is so much more intense. Ellie is scrappy and ruthless, and she can do some major damage against Abby. It’s actually a very difficult fight and I’ve seen people die many times over trying to beat that section. It actually feels quite satisfying, even after growing fond of Abby. I really enjoy your commentary on the parts you DO get to see. It just goes to show that you are missing much more context than you may realize when watching these cutscene only videos. I think 90% of the time when you have said “I don’t know how I feel about that” in regards to a particular narrative choice, I thought to myself “you haven’t seen the whole thing!” Experiencing it for yourself is a must! That’s all. Peace and love to you man.

sophie

This game is a masterclass in understanding how to utilize the psychology of love and grief and rage against your audience/players. This was such a fascinating phenomenon to watch when the game came out in 2020 and some audiences were so enraged by Joel’s death that they destroyed their copies of the game and sent death threats to the game devs and the actors. Plus, between Abby’s physique, Lev’s backstory, and the Ellie/Dina romance, the anti-LGBTQ folks came out of the woodworks and were just so nasty and bigoted to a large portion of the fanbase. It was a really unfortunate time to be in the Last of Us community because of how many people were hurt by the negativity online, but from an objective standpoint, how incredible is it that a game could make people go through the stages of grief just like the characters in the very same game?? Some people obviously never got over their hate for Abby and the game. But a lot of us, myself included, went through a journey of mourning a beloved character, feeling the anger and hatred, and then opening up to realize what a great story Abby has and how wonderful some of the characters on the “other side” are. It’s kind of beautiful, and definitely very meta.

sophie

Yeah it does, somewhat :). I just feel like, the world forces writers hands all the time, sure there are examples of poor writing, but just as a side note: Laura Bailey, the actress of Abby, received literal death threats to her, her husband and her baby son at the time, because abby was who abby was (including the fact, that she is "big", whatever that is supposed to entitle). And the argument was exactly the same and referred to as "woke". And that is why I am so puzzled about the whole discussion. And I really do not think that TLOU 2 could not have been written without those characters. But the choice for the characters came before the writing of the whole story. So again, I just dont get the point. There are so many bad written straight male white characters in film and especially gaming, too, and no one makes more of a deal about it than just saying "well, bad storytelling", without pushing their own ideology of, basically, hate for everything thats different. But thank you for answering so quickly. I mighty enjoy your content!!

Moritz Reissing

It's only a problem if it changes the story or forces the hand of the writers. I've heard Ubisoft has done this with the latest title. There's a company isn't there that goes in to make sure equality, non sexualities and xyz is fairly represented in games. My honest answer is why does something like that exist!? I don't want my story changed because it doesn't represent something correctly. If I wanted to write something about that, then I would do my research. I had to do an African commercial last year and I spent hours researching and making sure the dialogue represented the culture correctly. Reason being is it's the story I wanted to tell. I actually said in this that I felt it was a story they wanted to tell and didn't mind it tbh. Gave a great reason why Lily wanted to leave or be Lev. Hopefully that answers your question. I don't like that writers are forced but I never think of it tbh unless it's been mentioned or pointed out.

Kai Zammit

I really am interested in why you refer to "woke" as something bad or something to feel angry about. Also, why something like that should be seen as „forced“ or dismissed as „oh god, why did they ‚go down that route‘“ just because a person in the story refers to themselves not regarding their sex, but their gender. What is forced in that? People like Lev exist, they struggle and they are part of our reality, if folk like it or not. So whats wrong about letting them have parts and agency in such brilliantly written stories as TLOU 1 and 2? Im genuinely interested in your opinion on this as a professional storyteller, because I just cannot wrap my head around why this should be a problem at all.

Moritz Reissing

I really dislike how much they cut out of the hospital section. There was SO much lore leading toward what happened with the monster down there, so it wasn't out of no where. Definately research what happened!!!

Campbell Allan

Joel was still Tommy’s brother and I think he was willing to let it go when everyone was back together at the theater.. but, just like Ellie, I bet Tommy has PTSD being there and letting his brother die he probably felt guilty. And now he can’t go after Abby because of his gimp leg and missing eye. It’s super sad to think about actually. And now Ellie is truly alone at the end of the game. If you remember from Part I Ellie says “everyone has either died or left me, everyone f***ing except for you” to Joel. And she was always scared of ending up alone.. now she is

Hunter

I think they must have cut out the bit where you kill the dog, probably to get around the YouTube terms and conditions. The dog attacks Ellie when she first drops down into the aquarium. At that point it is just another nameless dog that Ellie dispatches to get it off her, without much thought. It's not until later that we find out who the dog is and retrospectively feel shitty about it.

Zensonar

Yeah that annoyed me too.

Zensonar

The player never turning off their flashlight bothered me for some reason haha. Great reactions to this! I loved this game

Hunter

It’s so nice to see that as painful as this can be to watch you get that it’s still good writing. Playing as Abby is such a gut wrenching move but if you look past that it makes for a good story and eventually I enjoyed playing as Abby and wanted to see more from her just maybe not against my people. Still leaves a hole in my stomach to see Ellie with nothing at the end. The only part of the story I would have changed would be her fighting Abby at the end. And maybe showing the growth then and there that everything that’s happened is just a reality of the shit world they’re in and she lets it go. Great watch thanks brotha.

Hunter Roddy

Can i suggest another great game series, Alan Wake games as in that same game universe belongs Control and Quantum Break games. It would be great if you have time to do reaction of those :)

Markus Myöhänen

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Kai Zammit

I was put off in the same way, but trust me, give it a go

Brian

Thank you very much for LOU series reactions!!

Markus Myöhänen

The debt was paid when Tommy and Joel saved Abby's ass. Not to mention it all started when she was being stubborn and tried to go to post by herself. She already started revenge journey on a failure and lead so many people on their misery. I will never forgive her for that. But i'll let her off the hook a smidge just because how she treated Lev and Yara.

Purevsuren Chimeddorj

Hi Kai currently on part 2 seeing your reaction to my favourite game I'm loving and idk if you are aware of it or considering but I feel like you would love reading to grounded the making of last of us 1 and 2 they are documentaries how the game was made it's really good I and I think many others would love it

Dominic Taylor

I absolutely understand your reservations and you are/were obviously not alone in it. I think I was underwhelmed when she was cast, but kept an open mind. Whether you'll like her or not is obviously not something you can know until you watch it, but I ended up loving her version of Ellie, as did many others. Thanks anyway for your amazing reactions and insight through this emotionally taxing journey.

Fredrik IB

It would be an honour!

Kai Zammit

I am thinking about it!!

Kai Zammit

I'm not going to lie, I'm tempted to but what puts me off, is the lead actress who plays Ellie. If I do, it will be soon and exclusive to Patreon. You're in the right place brother.

Kai Zammit

What a wonderful journey. Thank you so much for all of these reactions. I really hope you'll be reacting to the TLOU TV Series on the Patreon too. Would love your perspective on it. And what great timing, with Season 2 coming out soon as well :)

Fredrik IB

I believe it should be especially interesting to a film maker - there are a lot of such details there

Alex Boev

No prisoner was talking about the bite on Ellie's hand, when she got bit by that clicker hanging down from the tree.

Makondan

Hope you react to The Last Of Us tv show. would love to hear your take and thoughts!

Daniel Pappas

To hit the wake-up metaphor /parallel even harder, the first time you see Joel in TLOU 20 years later he’s waking up from a nightmare.

Connor Farrell

Yes, this would be great!

Robin Gustafsson

I think this game is amazing as both a fun videogame and a piece of cinematic storytelling. But I would never judge someone simply because they disagree. My issue with some of the hate this game got is I think a lot of people refused to look past ‘they killed muh Joel’ or ‘they make me play as Abby!’. I DO think there are some fair criticisms. I think it could have been leaner and the pacing could be better. I also feel like that early open section of Seattle felt weirdly out of place. You’d think SOMEONE would notice these 2 galloping around downtown on horseback and singing ‘take on me’ 😄

Richard White

Exactly, disagreeing doesn’t invalidate a viewpoint, and either way, by watching and deciding for yourself you know you’ve formed your own opinion and given something a fair shake. Plus, whatever your views are, it’s fun to have a discussion.

Richard White

Something I noticed for the first time on this watch: Throughout the game, several scenes start with Abby waking up from a nightmare. After she saves Yara, she dreams of her dad still alive and its the first time she wakes up peacefully. I feel like this is similar to the moment Ellie flashes back to Joel strumming his guitar on the porch and having the epiphany that she’s on the wrong path. Another beautiful parallel between the 2 protagonists.

Richard White

Alan Wake 2 is a brilliant game. Might lend itself to a cutscene watch. The lighting is absolutely legendary :-) Excellent commentary. Thanks!

DinChild

And also I think that you can compare it a lot with God of War and Kratos journey, because there are times where Kratos and Ellie face simillar situations, but Ellie represents more that vengeful young spirit that Kratos once was, as you have seen already, while the actual Kratos represents more that wise and experienced character, therefore having milestones that they both approach differently and changes their destination wildly

Fsaitza

What a journey this was. For the TV series its said that for season 2 would want to change some things on the story. Do you think that the story is worth changing it for a TV format or do you think they should adapt it being true to the original material? Its not confirmed yet or anything, but for example some say that they wont kill Joel or that they will more later than its shown here, which already makes almost the whole story senseless to me. I fear they might do the same mistakes than The Witcher series

Fsaitza

I agree, Lev and and Yara are well written, probably the best two in the game imo, the gender idea never seemed forced at all.

Ever

Right I forgot about that. Definitely well deserved but also Ashley Johnson (Ellie) absolutely brought her A game to this. I mean everybody did even if their roles were more on the sideline

Mokiki

Abby was never bit. When the prisoner said “she’s bit”, she was referring to Ellie’s bite from the clicker.

redhawk

Loving watching your videos with snaks and wine love from italy🤝❤️

LEO Leo

One detail, not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, after beating the game and returning to the title screen it shows the boat Abby and Lev took on the shore of Catalina Island. That is the island that the fireflies said they were stationed on, implying that they made it to the fireflies. Its a nice detail that adds some closure to Abby's storyline as well. My guess is that its doing the trilogy structure that films such as Star Wars used. Part 2 in the trilogy is darker and has a bitter ending with the good guys losing. Ellie lost everyone and everything she loved, and even her last connection to Joel, playing guitar, is gone. I'm guessing there will eventually be a part 3 dealing with Abby and the fireflies, and Ellie redeeming herself for the horrible violence she committed in this game, maybe eventually sacrificing herself to make a cure coming full circle. Who knows I guess but it makes sense to me.

AndyKimo

I will say Laura beat out ashley Johnson at the game awards and took best performance that year. We all voted for her. Also I may not be a woman but Abby motivated me to work out for sure lol.

Jay

This playthrough was the reason I came here from Youtube! Last of Us part 2 is my all-time favourite game story and appreciated your insights, loved it! As a film director/game director student I really appreciate your reactions, I learn a lot to my own stuff! Maybe one day you'll react to my works ! Keep doing what you do, big fan!

Janne Tabell

I'm not sure if anyone has said it already, but the fireflies are real, Neil Druckmann himself confirmed that the call was real, so the "Rattlers" as the group is called were either just tracking Abby, or they just ran into them

Alita

I think i might be wrong the big guy said to Ellie "You better go before that infection take over" that could mean anything though she didn't have any visble wounds when ellie cut her down.

Mike Wazowski

I assume in the 2month cut they didn't show us but I think getting bit is the only way to get infected. Im not totally sure if she got bit im just speculating.

Mike Wazowski

Some fun Trivia for you Kai. The actress for Abbey is named Laura Bailey and the Actor for that fat guy with shades at the end is Travis Willingham. In real life these two are married. Travis is also that voice in the first game that you kept hearing on all the enemies. Also, Ellie's actress is Ashley Johnson and the radio voice at the end is Liam O'Brien. All four of these actors are apart of Critical Roll, which is the biggest actual play DnD series in the world. They even have an animated series on Amazon called The Legend of Vox Machina that is based on one of their campaigns.

Ethan Rooney

Noooooooo!

Kai Zammit

That's how I roll. Also, if someone says it's bad then why is it bad? Maybe we could learn from it rather than just dismissing it. It was fantastic to me. I understand everyone is different but this has certainly left a lasting impression for me.

Kai Zammit

I knew you were gonna like it. Loved the reaction mate

Stavros Mayakofsky

Abby was bitten!? When?

Kai Zammit

I think it was very powerful and made sense for the story it wanted to tell. I also think it's clever because in a post apocalyptic world setting, everything sort of gets reset doesn't it. I've never thought about transgender or non-binary in a world where there's only black and white rules. Man and female. So interesting.

Kai Zammit

oh man, you're gonna love U4. It's written by the same dude that wrote TLOU and it's an amazing game all around. i don't know what games you;re into but U4 is a 'must play'', ''must watch'' etc

Stavros Mayakofsky

People were sending the actress death threat's!? Over a game!? Bonkers. I loved this game and I don't care about the size of characters arms or if it's trans or woke. I play or enjoy the story for the story that wants to be told. Blooming marvellous! Thank you for hanging out with me in the videos, I appreciate it.

Kai Zammit

Had a feeling you were gonna enjoy Part 2. I don't want to downplay the voices of people who don't like this game because it's absolute fair to play this game and say "nope I don't like this. This is not for me." But sadly a lot of the very vocal and toxic criticism about the game is not really worth engaging with. Before the game was released a lot of plot had been leaked online. I don't fully remember if there was footage as well but the death of Joel was was known by people who saw the leaks. And this had people already up in arms and hated on the game immediately. Other stupid criticisms where about Abby and women not being able to bulk up like that and if they could there is no way for it to make sense during an Apocalypse. Completely ignoring the resources in the stadium at the WLF's disposal. Additionally Abby got a lot of hate because she killed Joel and tragically that hate spilled into real life the voice actress for Abby Laura Bailey got a lot of hate and death threats against her and her new born baby. Hearing Laura's and her husbands retelling of the situation after the game released is utterly heartbreaking. At least to me this probably one of Laura's best performances she has given in any game so far and she deserves more praise for that than hate. Lev's trans plot got brought up as criticism. It wasn't called "woke" back then but more like trans propaganda etc. Bottom line Last of Us Part 2 for some reason managed to piss off so many people for absolutely stupid reasons. As much as I loved the game I still haven't replayed it and I don't think I will. Maybe if last of us part 3 is gonna be thing (some rumors do exist that this might be one of Naughty Dogs titles currently in pre production) a replay of 1 and 2 is in order but because of how heavy story wise it is and how utterly raw a lot of the emotions are being played it is a very draining game but in a good way. It shows that the developer at least for me succeeded. You don't wanna have this type of story and not get a reaction from the player.

Mokiki

It's interesting to me that people didn't like this game. Surely, if there's any purpose or point to a story, besides being an entertaining distraction, it's to make you FEEL things and hopefully get you to reflect on those things. Experiencing my own rage at what Abby did to Joel, and then frustration at being yanked away from my revenge quest to view Abby's life, to see it slowly turn into empathy... This had me questioning my own biases and emotional maturity, being in almost perfect alignment with Ellie - We shared the anger and then we both had to reflect. What a cool way of engaging the audience. Sounds harsh, but I honestly pity those who hated this game. I'm glad I don't have their brain.

Aidan

The Last of us 1 & 2 are both in my top 5 part 1 literally changed the way I saw cinematic video games! Thanks for going through the adventure Kai!

ShinobZero

I also like how the gave Ellie her fair fight because she wasn't beating jacked Abby lmao.

Mike Wazowski

The rat king fight is absolutely terrifying to play. It’s got some of the most graphic fail states too. The rat king can just rip Abby in half at the torso. I personally love Lev’s storyline in the game. But I am nonbinary, so it meant a lot to me to see a trans story in a big game like this. And it feels like they took care to tell the story right and make it feel real in the context of the world and the overall story.

Sav Miller

I think Abby is also immune she wasn't showing any signs of being infected from her bite. My theory is that if they make TLOU 3 Abby and Ellie with cross paths again, They will both become fireflies and look for others that are immune and come up with a plan that saves everyone, That would be awesome.

Mike Wazowski

Outstanding job, Kai. Well done for judging it on your own terms and not listening to others tell you to NOT watch something

Richard White

I second this recommendation

Richard White

It was a scene that they cut out

PizzaGuyFrank

Me too. Bawling my eyes out every damn time and this was no exception 😂

Zoozee

During the fetch scene when said “I hope this dogs survives” oof got some bad news there. Unfortunately Ellie killed Alice (the dog) when breaking into the aquarium when she killed Owen and Mel.

PizzaGuyFrank

So glad to have you here with me Emma, was a blast! Onto the next game I guess, exciting times ahead. I hope you and the family are feeling better.

Kai Zammit

Oh really!? That's awesome.

Kai Zammit

So happy you enjoyed the journey Kai! Few things.. You talked about knowing the voice on the radio to Abby. It's Liam O'Brian who has been in so so many games, Fortnite, the Star Wars games, Jedi Survivor and Fallen Order, just loads so I'm sure you'd have heard him before. Huge chunks of exploration of the Scars Island missing, because they're not cutscenes of course, but that'll be fun to see the beauty of if you play it eventually. I'd also recommend watching Hello Future Me's breakdown of the game if you ever want a philosophical look at it. It goes well alongside your pick ups on the games themes. So sad this journey is over but so happy it happened

Emma Jones

The people on the radio were actually the Fireflies in Catalina Island. It was just a coincidence that The Rattlers (they’re slavers) caught Abby and Lev immediately afterwards. The main menu screen after you beat the game is Abby’s boat on Catalina Island, signifying they made it.

redhawk

I absolutely love this story. I think having Abbey defect from the WLF because her enemy showed mercy was perfect. It made her character likable and I actually became attached - having to beat the shit out of Ellie in the theater was painful to play though. The final fight sequence had me tearing up as I played. I didnt want Abbey to die - she was so weak and fragile in that moment. I'm glad Ellie showed her mercy in the end. ~One of my favorite games and stories ever. p.s. you asked us if there were times the leisureliness of the cut scenes became grating - There were a couple moments I wanted to skip, or didnt care about. I remember flip-flopping on how I felt about Dina for some reason. Some of her cut scenes were hard for me. Same for Mel. Great reactions - love the videos mate!

Chad Jordan

You should watch and hopefully react to "Grounded 2" documentary. it is so outstanding and it shows how did this masterpiece was made

Alex Boev

Yeah, I might do and if I decide too, you're in the right place.

Kai Zammit

will do!

sarah

The last scenes, especially of them together, is when everything makes sense. Last of Us Part 2 is tragedy, just like life itself. She made the decision that she wanted to forgive him, but then shit went down and she realized, she were too late. She missed time with him and didn't got another second when she finally wanted to - and this is what completely devasted her, this is why she was sooo furious and hatefull. It was not in her control anymore. And the whole story shows how you can lose everything if you walk the path of hate and revenge. I know when i finished this game i had to take a few days to fully grasp the ending and the whole experience. But in the end i became an absolute fan and i think this is a masterpiece. No game ever let me feel this kind of emotions and narrative wise i like hard choices, consequences and a tragedy. Because life is tragedy, it never happens as planned, it's never easy. But what wonderful right it is :D

Jens Hennig

That final flashback makes me cry every single time (I've seen it maybe 20 times now). Thank you for this series and I sincerely hope you react to the TV version of this story.

S.

I've got my snacks, my drink AND tissues. Going in

skiffiee

I keep seeing Uncharted 4 pop up, we'll see. You guys can get voting soon.

Kai Zammit

Hope RDR2. And in terms of maybe a new franchise from Naughty Dog hopefully Uncharted 4 🙌🏼

Kay

Make sure you vote on the poll then! Coming up soon.
