Very different show from the Playstation conference and yeah, I liked this. Gave me the showcases of old vibe but mixed with a good mixture. Some games went over my head if I'm being honest as they started to blur into one another.
What I got from this...
Some games I fell in love with!
A lot of anime/genshin style games. So much so I couldn't tell where one began and one ended.
Seems like a lot of Edlen Ring games, is that normal?
Regardless, I actually liked the show but I think my favourite one is yet to come. See you there!

I think they look very amazing and we will be keeping watch on their development surely. Also wanted to ask if by your first impressions with trailers and gameplays do you think there is any title yet that could compete with Clair Obscure for the GOTY this year?

Also in this case this year, I think Epic paid for a lot of slots for games that were unique or awesome looking using Unreal 5 to showcase their engine and all. Trying to find a balance between making the showcase worthwhile and make the money it needs while also still celebrating games and all. They are trying each year to find new ways to balance it and I like the effort they are putting in.

2025-06-07 15:20:53 +0000 UTCTo comment on your perception of a lot of anime type and Elden Ring like games, every year the game awards or Summer Game Fest do tend to reflect where the industry is currently trend chasing. The last few years, SGF has been riddled with upcoming games as a service or multiplayer shooters and MMO's with sprinklings of other games. SGF really is the catch all for companies and Geoff Keighley has really worked hard to his credit taking feedback on each showcase and working hard to give free screentime to small, diverse, and otherwise unknown games. As well as just trying to truly, like he and you said, show games for everyone. To me, Geoff is truly an ambassador to the gaming industry but very much is on the side of developers and the art of game making and creative vision rather than just taking paychecks from giant publishers who dish out fat checks to their CEO's and lay off and shut down hundreds of people and entire studios to balance a spreadsheet. Geoff really has been working the last decade or so to evolve and find a way to have this be a true common ground celebration and spotlight of games rather than timeslots to the highest bidder which admittedly they have stumbled on in the past. Hope you see this Kai and hope it makes sense. Trying to fill in some gaps as someone who has been all about these things since i was a teen a decade ago watching the prime of E3 to now this evolution of gaming showcases. Love seeing you cover and react to these! Keep doing what you do!

I really loved the first one, the second was ok (it went through some of the worst development hell), but this new one is looking really good, bringing back my favorite character. If you want to check the games out I recommend waiting a bit as dying light 1 is about to get a visual overhaul update with improved textures, lighting, shadows, etc.
