EXCLUSIVE REACTION: Interview with the Vampire 2x04

Comments

I am late but I would love to see the reaction on True Blood, at least for a season or two!

The person in the painting was Armand 7 years before he was turned. He was once named Amadeo by his maker Marius but his original name was Arun. In the books it was Andrei. He was occasionally talking about himself in the third person. His maker is Marius... not depicted in the painting.

The whitewashing of Armand in the painting always makes me sick to think about

I love the use of imaginary Lestat. Clearly it is what Louis thinks Lestat would say in the moment, but it's also Louis' inner thoughts himself. The way both Louis and imaginary Lestat say "ok" to Armand when he is saying he's not like Lestat really brings that home. All of imaginary Lestat's degrading of Armand isn't just what Louis thinks Lestat would say, on some level it's what Louis thinks of Armand himself. Not Romeo, barley Balthasar.

I love your reaction to this show! I honestly can't wait to see what you think of the next few episodes! Thank you for your hard work and sharing!

True blood is hilarious but I also think you'd both enjoy Penny Dreadful which is more concise. Also has some fun gay stuff and is a beautiful show. My other rec would be Lovecraft Country!

The show is kinda changing up the original timeline (obviously), since the book came out in the 70s. So the premise of the show is that the original interview/story Louis told *would* have been the OG 'Interview with a Vampire' published back then. (Had it not been interrupted now, in the show version of events). So now they're going back in 2020s to do the interview For Realsies and give the 'Real' story.

I know you guys probably saw it in your after episode research, but to confirm, that person in the painting in The Louvre WAS supposed to be Armand! It's also a real painting, the crew had to search the whole Louvre to find a real painting that had anyone in it that could resemble actor Assad Zaman and that was the one they found! The in universe explanation for why it doesn't really look all that similar to Armand is that considering he was a young South Asian slave, essentially, in Rome, he was intentionally whitewashed. Also that statue Louis was looking at was in the truck that Louis and Claudia rode into Paris! It's there in the "You and me, me and you" scene. It's not really a significant detail, they were just calling back to that. Super fucking excited for the episode 5 reaction ahhh it's quite literally one of the best episodes in TV imo and definitely my favorite of the show! Some STELLAR acting and writing is on the way! Definitely keep the subtitles on lmao

This is favorite reaction series next to The Great ❤️‍🔥 I need to catch up on the books, I’ve only read the first book.
