ES-DE 3.1.0-32 is now available for download

We're happy to announce that ES-DE 3.1.0-32 for Android is now available for download!
This release brings full localization support and includes translations to ten new languages. These are Spanish (Spain), French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. More languages will follow in future releases.
Note that theme translations is an ongoing work and it's a long term goal to have all themes translated to all languages. Make sure to regularly update your themes using the built-in downloader to receive improvements as they are made by the theme developers.
Some new systems are also enabled on Android specifically for this release, which brings game system support one step closer to being on par with the ES-DE desktop ports. The new additions are Microsoft Windows (windows), PC Arcade Systems (pcarcade), Taito Type X (type-x), Dragon Data Dragon 32 (dragon32) and Tano Dragon (tanodragon).

Note though that you are commenting on the release message for the 3.1.0-32 release which is not the latest one. Just trying SNES as I figured this was easy to get going... Core downloaded of course and tested opening game in retroarch, but when run from ES DE, it just goes black a while then says Retroarch is not responding. Help please!

I installed a new FAKE-08 core to play PICO-8, and when I try to select alternative emulators, I can't select this new core from Retroarch—only the default one that comes pre-installed with Retroarch, which doesn't work to open the games. Could ES-DE implement a system similar to Daijishō for switching between alternative emulators and Retroarch cores? The way it works now forces me to play my PICO-8 games directly in Retroarch with the new core instead of exclusively through the frontend. Thanks!

2024-11-06 04:22:52 +0000 UTCA firmware bug means an issue in the operating system due to some defect from the hardware manufacturer, they often customize Android quite a bit and this sometimes breaks the OS. Only emulator I haven’t perfected is Dreamcast via Redream. Couldn’t find a solution on discord when I looked but it just loads up the emulator as opposed to the game I pick on ES-DE. I haven’t tried with flycast because I paid for redream so I want to get it working. Ya know

But this front end is just awesome man it makes my handheld device 100x better than it was. Super grateful for your work!!! Started on PC in preparation for my new handheld. If anyone is struggling I definitely recommend the YouTube page I mentioned above. Got me where I needed to go and then the ES-DE discord helped with some issues I was having late in the game!!! Not sure why you get a 403 error on TheGamesDB, that would be a server response so you would need to get in contact with the TheGamesDB team to clear that out. Just be aware that they only offer 3000 API calls per month (unless it has changed recently) and perhaps they send the 403 response code if you exceed that number. 2024-10-26 19:05:03 +0000 UTCI am enjoying the software, it's the best front end I ever used, and I have it on 7 different devices (2x Steam Decks (one Oled), 2x Arcade Cabinets, 3x Retro Handhelds). Not a huge Android fan as I prefer Linux but ES-DE has changed my mind on my Retroid Pocket 5 Mini. I am having a problem however scraping from TheGamesDB as I am getting a 403 error consistently. ScreenScraper works fine, and all other devices are also fine. I logged in here today looking for a new version. Any ideas for me?

I am from the country Chile and I have joined you, I downloaded the apk for my Ayn Odin 2 Max and so far everything is going well, I use Spanish language and thank you for that, it is easier for me to use the apk. Cincerity I will remain subscribed for a couple of months as a sign of gratitude, at least until I finish installing all the ROMs I want. The themes look very nice and entertaining. Thank you. I currently use Google Translate, I don't know English, but I'm grateful.

The system should ask the user: what platform do you want to add? Where are the roms for this platform? User gives the path, then you automatically create links to those files from your internal rom directory - so the user doesn't need to move any files.

It is possible to define/use your own directory names as nothing is hardcoded in ES-DE, but it requires extra work from the user and you miss out on the benefit of using the included configuration that is fully supported, tested and documented. Just remember that ES-DE supports almost 200 systems so if you have a large collection it will be a large job to customize things rather than just using what ES-DE ships out of the box. Custom folders means whatever SD card users have they now need to create a custom one for ES. You should be able to abstract your requirements to offer users the easiest option that works with their existing set up. For example, you should be able to link your current rom folder structure to whatever the user uses so that it's seamless to use

Many people use ES-DE on multiple devices such as Android and a Mac or Windows computer or Android and a Steam Deck etc. You can however use whatever directory names you want if you customize your systems but this is a lot of extra work so not something that is recommended. By using the predefined directory names you'll know everything has been fully tested and is fully supported.
