Preview: Debtors' Prison (Succubus Stories)

Break the law and a guard will come for you. You'll be put in the stocks or the dungeon, and be released after a few days or weeks. Find yourself in arrears, however, and you'll provoke the ire of dangerous bounty hunters and find yourself dragged off to debtors' prison. If you or a loved one can't pay back your debts, they'll find a way extract what's owed from your blood, sweat, or tears instead.

Debtors' Prison Overview

If you can't pay your rent, you'll go into debt. When you've been in debt for a certain amount of time, or when your debt reaches a certain amount, bounty hunters will be dispatched to capture you. Bounty hunters are much more dangerous than guards, and many are capable of resisting or dispelling magical effects, so getting away from them is much more difficult. If captured by a bounty hunter, the player will be sent to debtor's prison.

Once in the prison, a few different things can happen, depending on a number of factors.

• Your property, including potions and materials, will be temporarily confiscated.
• You'll have an opportunity to write a letter to a friend asking them to cover your debt and secure your release. Depending on who you write to, how wealthy they are, whether they've helped you monetarily before, and how much they like you, your friend may agree to purchase your debt, freeing you. Even your wealthiest friends can't help you an unlimited number of times, though.
• If you choose not to ask for help, or if the friend you contact can't help, the debtor's prison will find someone to cover your debt for you, and release you into that person's custody. You'll receive a few different options at random, from the benign (a long stint of maid work) to the more perverse (become a temporary "pet" for a noble).
• After someone you don't know purchases your debt, you'll play through a relatively lengthy scene and some narration describing your ordeal. You'll eventually be released and be able to return to your normal life, but you'll suffer a minor permanent negative effect from your time in servitude, based on the type of servitude you experienced. These negative effects won't be so horrible they ruin the game, and some might even be fun to roleplay, but you probably don't want to collect too many.

Going into the debtor's prison will take you out of the main game loop for quite a while, similar to how certain story events and requests might.

BUT I'M TOO RICH!!!!

If you have 6 billion G saved up and are concerned you won't get to see the debtors' prison content, don't worry! I intend to add a request that will grant you voluntary access to the debtors' prison system. Basically you'll be able to sell yourself into debt "by accident" in order to experience this content at your leisure, similar to how you can go and just put yourself in the stocks or the dungeon after meeting certain conditions.

Will there be dub/non-con?

No. While some of the "servitude" portions will have BDSM elements or things of that nature, you will always have a choice between at least two types of servitude, one of which will be less sexual and more domestic or labor-oriented. You will always know what you're getting into upfront as well, and this game system isn't meant to be super dark or anything.

Release window for v0.15

I expect this version to release in December. However, last year I released an update on December 20th, and that update did horribly, so if the update slips to being too close to the holidays, I will delay it until January. The actual gameplay systems for most of the things I plan to add to the update are complete, but I still have a lot of content to write, so we're still a ways off.
