Added 2023-08-16 03:46:13 +0000 UTCLaguna de Bacalar is known as the “lake of many colours” in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico (close to Tulum & Cancun). It’s a HUGE fresh water lake with beautiful colours and lots of hotel options to choose from. There is not much else to do besides enjoy the lake so prepare to relax!
Here are our tips from our travels there:
- choose a hotel with a good pier into the water - one with hammocks, chairs and swings to lounge on. There isn’t much to do in Bacalar and you may not even leave your hotel so having nice hangout areas is key
- choose a hotel with free kayak and paddle board rentals to explore the lake
- bring a book or games to stay entertained. Wi-fi isn’t the strongest here
- plan to watch the sun rise over the lake from your hotels pier - you may need to get there early if other guests have the same plan as you
