"Anniversary" - Sneak Peek #1

So many posts today! Here's the first sneak preview of the comic I've started preparing for Korrasami Day. The full comic will be going up on December 19th.

In the end I felt a little awkward only sharing the WIPs for the next 5 months, so instead I decided to share the full process + final version of a single panel from each page. This way you guys get to see some finished art and I still get to keep the full comic a surprise until December. 😊

I really struggled with choosing between this panel and another that had both Korra and Asami in it, but ultimately I was just so happy with how this panel came out that I didn't want to wait until December to share it.

I also threw in the concept art for their new looks. This comic will take place 10 years after the end of the show, so Korra and Asami should be 31 and 32 respectively. Given the time jump, I made sure to give them some slightly updated looks.

Korra's hair is based on Michelle Wong's concept that was included in Ruins of the Empire, but with one minor tweak: Considering everything Korra's been through, I don't think it'd be all that surprising for her hair to start going gray a little earlier than usual, so I decided to add a streak on the front. Her outfit, on the other hand, is something I came up with by mixing and matching the various looks she's had throughout the show, including her Earth Kingdom look she had in Book 4. The creators have mentioned that they took inspiration from MMA fighters and superheroes for Korra's various looks, so I tried to follow suit with this design, too.

Asami's outfit is based on one of her unused designs from Book 4. I went with this one because I thought it was the one most suited for what they'll be doing in this comic. I was tempted to draw her in the outfit she lent Kuvira in RotE, but felt that one looked a bit too formal. Another reason I went with this look is because Asami's neck is left bare, so I could add a little Water Tribe betrothal necklace without having to make any changes to the design 😊
