[Summary]
Spooky Milk Life is a high-quality r-18 adult-only adventure game with a full-featured simulation date!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been contemplating about reviewing this game or not.
On one hand it's VERY promising, great potential to become one of the better quality titles in the H scene, while on the other hand it still needs to be fleshed out with more content.
I probably wouldn't write this review if if I just started the blog, but after all the projects I've been through I just know better that in this field you gotta take what you can get, as long as the heart and art quality are there.
So, Spooky Milk Life, a game where you start as a young adult male protagonist with a sad backstory of a disappearing father and mother that passed away on his birth.
Thankfully with the power of Anime tropes our hero ends up starting his new life at the residency of 3 beautiful women: A Tsundere, a childish one, and a "Mommy".
This is honestly all you need to know about the story, as it doesn't really get any deeper.. I mean, it does, just not verbally...
Read the dialogues if you're interested in a light-hearted comical conversations. They're clearly written either by non-English speakers, or someone who doesn't take writing seriously.
I wouldn't call it bad though, still enjoyable as it did humor me, especially during H scenes.
Gameplay: you control the game with mouse only, interacting with highlighted NPC's, doors and objects.
Shortly after you start playing you'll get into the first (and currently only) dungeon of the game, where you must defeat enemies and sell their parts to collect money in order to eventually progress the first main quest.
The combat is pretty simple, having to time the action marker in the middle of the bar as it goes left and right. Dealing double damage on dead center and half next to it.
Definitely could use some improvement in that department, as all the battles are very similar with different opponents you get to face.
You can also upgrade your stats with gear and stat boosts through NPCs, but honestly by the time you start racking up enough cash to become a killing machine, the current build will already be over.
The one thing that stands out the most, as you gathered from the thumbnail is the artwork.
It's beautiful, has a unique style that I personally haven't seen yet in past titles, and as a milk man myself, I do appreciate every single character sacrificing their back pain for our sake with massive milkers. (well drawn and not disgustingly big thankfully!)
Right now there isn't an H event gallery, other than "captured" toys in your room that you can re-interact with for their respective scenes. So do make sure to save often, so you can revisit the main girls scenes. Or just wait for the next build, since it seems it's on their soon to-do list.
I like Spooky Milk Life, I really do. There may be complaints about the lack of content right now, but seriously, we have games with 5 H animations and bootleg gameplay on DLsite that sell like hot-cakes for around $7-10.
I feel that people discredit the effort it takes to create a quality H game too lightly, especially when you have a studio that attempts to create a whole universe with actual lore and gameplay to back to it up.
A good H adventure game is rare to come by, so while SML can't be considered very good yet - it definitely has great potential in my book. Lets hope the devs will stay diligent and deliver the goods as time goes back. (Latest big update was 2 days ago)
You can grab the game on the developers Patreon.
You can also check out their very early alpha of Spooky Milk Farm on one of the team members Patreon. <- This one however I can't recommend, as at its current state appears to be abandoned. It does use the same artwork, with a couple of H scenes and minor gameplay if you'd like to check it out anyway!
