⚠️Main Work Ext HDD at risk of full on failure⚠️
Added 2021-10-16 00:34:46 +0000 UTC❗The main 4TB Ext HDD I use for my 3d model art/work is currently failing to read and making faulty sounds.
The total risk is the loss of a Year and a half+ of data, just gone and setting me back tons.
Model Data, Textures and any other programs I ran from it could be lost if I don't find a way to get the thing to at least read long enough so I can recover the files onto a backup drive(which I have at the ready if the main drive ever reads...).
The faulty ext drive is a WD 4TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive HDD, the disk head was not stuck on the disk/platter and the drive itself isn't spinning like the un-updated-backup drive can.. Dead silence now. The disk itself internally looks undamaged at the moment.
❗ugh seems like its the hdd motor, the cable connector I purchased didn't get it to spin. I have the correct cable as well. SATA to USB 3.0, Neeyer SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable for 3.5 Inch HDD/SSD with 12V/2A Power Adapter, 20 Inch.
❗Next step is sending it to professionals to get the data. *I will now be shipping it off to Fields Data Recovery. I can only get a accurate Price Quote after they diagnose the issue when they receive the hardware. It was tough finding and picking a company thus far.
❗My other WD Ext HDD from my time spent on my MSI Laptop is still operational and is only backed to around Sept 2019, but worst case scenario, at least I have something.
I'll will continue to keep you all updated.
and as always, Thank You for the support.

Backblaze keeps drive statistics for how to find ones with low failure rates, can PM if you like, I work in IT. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-drive-stats-for-q2-2021/

2021-10-17 03:00:11 +0000 UTCTo prevent this kind of problem, I use the program "crystal disk" which allows to give the state of health of the hard disk.
