Batman Returns (1992) - Full Reaction

I did it, and I think we even had fun! Knowing much more of what tone to expect helped! It was still campy to me but with a real dark side as well. I think Danny Devito was insane in this in a good way and I wanted even more MK's batman. Still not my favorite style of movie I don't think but happy to continue with na na na na na na na na BATMAN!

Batman Returns (1992) - Full Reaction

Comments

" What other Burton movies did I like...'' You liked Big Fish, Cassie.

Rick Rodriguez

My view of this reaction is belated. Thanks for the "meow" at the end. That's always been the most memorable part of the movie to me and now you're Michelle's understudy. Now that you have familiar roles for Michelle Pfieffer and also for Jeff Goldblum, consider watching both of them together in the movie "Into The Night" from 1985. Jeff went on to do Silverado in the same year. It was directed by John Landis who also did The Blues Brothers, National Lampoon's Animal House, Three Amigos!, Coming to America, Trading Places and more.

Young Michael Keaton - I recommend Mr. Mom and Night Shift.

Tim Burton's Batman is definitely its own thing. Not faithful to...anything, really. The Penguin and Catwoman in The Batman is far more comic accurate. But I grew up on these films so I have a soft spot for them. I think they aged poorly, but I still enjoy them. Keaton is very good in the role. I really appreciate the performances of Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito, but I hate Burton's take on the characters.

Walter

Someone bellow in the comments said Keaton and Pfeiffer had dated and broke up and that's partly why she didn't get the Vicky Vale role. Agree that the party scene was great. Curious how Catwoman might've figured in to future Burton Batman films.

So many thoughts: 1. It's hilarious I watched this so much as a kid. 2. Henchmen. 3. You're not wrong about Batman, I noticed he wasn't even seen until half an hour in, and barely in any scenes until an hour in. 4. Catwoman is fucked up and I don't blame her. "hello there" to "hell here" is a big sign of what's to come. 5. I think they should have either taken away Schreck or Penguin and focused more on Batman and Catwoman, because by FAR the best scene in the film is when Selina and Bruce realize who the other is. 6. You wanted the ending that The Dark Knight Rises gave us, and I don't blame you, cause DAMN- while I love me some Christian Bale, Michelle and Michael Keaton have soooooo much more chemistry than Christian and Anne ever had. 7. Have you seen Birdman yet? You should watch that before moving on to the Val Kilmer film IMO.

Did the comic book fans like these movies?

Chris Thom

You have to remember at the time of Tim burtons Batman, all we had was the Campy Adam West Batman which was fun and great. Comics were getting darker for Batman, so when Burtons Batman came out, it was comic but also dark, which made us Batman fan love it. Now Nolan's Batman brought us Batman more dark and serious, which is what Batman became in the comics and was done well. When Tim Burton was moved out of Batman, it became more campy, which was not really what Batman fans wanted, since the comic was not campy at the time.

Let's kick some ice. Sigh.

Chris Thom

Not a fantastic movie but it's a bit of fun, Catwoman definitely carries this film for me. Can't really remember the ones after this but I think it's more ridiculous campyness. All I can think of are the Arnie lines lol.
