So fun watching movies w/ Cassie. "It's Neal from Santa Clause", where as my generation when watching Santa Clause we're like: It's Private Blum or It's Brad or It's Billy".. :) Jenny is played by Lisa Eilbacher she was a kid actress but mainly known for her roles in this and as Seeger (SEEEGAAAR) in "An officer and a Gentleman".

Ryan Towell

The sequel is every bit as funny and fun. One of the rare sequels that lives up to the original.

Mitch M

+1 for 48 Hrs. (1982)

Clay F

Okay Cassie, now you have to watch the best Eddie Murphy movie: 48 hours. Best buddy cop movie ever. No joke. Check it out.

thom phillabaum

Here's a little trivia that some people may not know. Gil Hill, the actor who played Inspector Todd, was an actual Detroit Police Officer and politician. In 1982, he was promoted to the rank of inspector in the Homicide Division of the Detroit Police Department. Meaning, he was the actual homicide inspector at the time of filming Beverly Hills Cop. Another bit of trivia was his connection to Richard Wershe Jr., aka "White Boy Rick". Richard Wershe Jr. became a confidential informant for the FBI at the age of 14, as played out in the movie "White Boy Rick (2018)". Wershe claimed that Gil Hill was involved in police corruption, and former Detroit hit man Nate "Boone" Craft alleged that Hill once tried to commission the murder of Wershe for $125k to prevent him from revealing the police corruption Gil Hill was involved in. Wershe would end up spending 27 years in prison for a non-violent drug offence he committed when he was 17. Gil Hill would later go on to run for Mayor of Detroit in 2001 and lose to Kwame Kilpatrick.

Mark T

Glad you liked it! The second one is even better.

Steve Arnold

I'm so glad this finally happened. Cassie had/gave us a fantastic react.

Terry Yelmene

I'm usually the one that says, "NO, you have to watch all the sequels!" But yup.. it's horrendous. Don't do it.

Philip Alan

Watch the sequel Cassie, the second one was Directed by Tony Scott, who also did “Top Gun. You will equally enjoy it. But, skip the third. It’s was pretty awful.

Mark White

Cass, the song that caught your attention is called "Axel F" from Harold Faltemeyer. It was written for the film.

Daniel Doble

She recognized that during the reaction. Looked it up.

Clay F

This was a fun watch Cassie, a little bummed I didn't participate in the watch-along but there was no way I was missing out at meeting Ron Pearlman, Selma Blair, and Doug Jones at this recent Monsterpalooza convention in Pasadena! I'll send you some copies of the pics I took via USB drive 😁 Great reaction Cassie as always, I'm very glad you really enjoyed this movie as much as I do, I have this movie along with it's sequel in my Top 100 favorite movies of all time lol! Fun fact trivia, even though I'm sure most of everybody on here has already said it, but here it is in my words lol! Originally the filmmakers wanted Sylvester Stallone to play Axel Foley, but Stallone didn't really like the script on how it had a lot of focus on comedy which wasn't really part of his persona, so he did a rewrite of the script that focused more on the action rather than comedy, but the filmmakers didn't want it that way, so they turned to Eddie Murhpy! However, Stallone didn't leave empty handed, he took the rewritten script and used it to make one of his biggest and most underrated box-office hits "Cobra (86)" which is also one of my favorite action movies as well, I highly recommend it and I hope you do a reaction to it someday 😁 Other than that, I don't really have much to say about this movie other than this was a action/comedy that I believe Eddie Murphy was born to play! However I will point out that the actor who played the police lieutenant was Ronny Cox, you may recognize him in a couple of movies you've reacted to on the channel Cass, he was in "Robocop" (Dick Jones), and "Total Recall" (Cohagen) both being main villain roles though lol! Great reaction Cassie as always, love and support, you (and Carly) are the best, hope your son is getting better, and God bless y'all and the family 🥰😇🙏🤗😁😉✌👍🌹

Wesley White

The actress who plays Jenny was the girl in An Officer and a Gentleman who Richard Gere's character helped get over the wall in the obstacle course

thomas king

Always fun watching this movie, I had meet Judge Reinhold (Rosewood) at a U2 Concert years ago and meet John Ashton (Taggart) in 2022 two years before he passed away. He was fun talking too. Also took a photo with him

John A

Always staying.

Thomas Thompson

Yes! Love this movie and all its 80's goodness. I knew Cassie was a fan of the "Santa Clause" movies and kept waiting for her to recognize Judge Reinhold. Of course, many people saw him in this or "Fast Times..." first.

Stephen Dias

I agree. I liked it a lot better on Patreon.

Dan M

Midnight Run is a really fun movie. I think both Cassie and Carly would really like. It also has an excellent main theme by Danny Elfman.

Dan M

The Money Pit is good, but there’s another Tom Hanks movie from the 80s that I like even better…Volunteers, with John Candy.

Dan M

They filmed The Firm (1993) at that Harvester Facility. They turned it into a movie studio and built sets there.

Larry Darrell

This is one of my favorite movies. If I am flipping through the guide on my TV and I see this on, I must watch it. Another early 80’s movie I love is The Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelly long. I highly recommend it.

Kelly Oehlschlager

In the early 2000s, our office was called in to help the FBI in an investigation of the Memphis PD evidence room. They knew that several of the civilian employees were working with a former employee to steal drugs from the evidence room and put them back in the street. But to charge them, they needed some idea of how much had been taken so we were called in to do an inventory. The main evidence room took a long time because there were many, many small items to account for. But for what they called the “big drugs”, they used a warehouse down by the river (called the Harvester facility because it started out as a factory for farm equipment). They literally had metal cubicles stacked to the ceiling, filled with drugs, and garbage cans filled with long guns. The marijuana was baled like hay. It turned out that approximately $3 million (street value) in drugs had gone back onto the streets. There were also more than five dozen high end handguns missing and more than a $100k in confiscated cash missing. But the interesting thing is that almost all the packaged cocaine smelled strongly of mustard. Turns out that drug dealers used the mustard to mask the smell of the drugs and trick the drug dogs. So the canine trainers had started training them to smell for mustard. Hearing the coffee grounds story reminded me of that little tidbit. Both sides constantly at odds - one trying new methods of deception and the other adjusting their methods of detection accordingly. And round and round they go. Just Plain Bob

The actress who played Jennie in this movie played the cadet who had trouble getting up the wall in An Officer and a Gentleman.

Alan Kobb

+1 for Running Scared (1986). One of the Best Buddy Cop films Ever. Highly Recommended.

Larry Darrell

Blocking the tail pipe with bananas or whatever causes a condition known as vapor lock. The same way an engine has to be able to "breathe" in from the intake manifold, it has to able to breathe out through the exhaust. This is why they advise people if they get stuck in a snow drift with their vehicles to keep it running for warmth but make sure your exhaust pipe is clear and not packed with snow.

Keith Jacobsen

Still quote some stuff from it to this day. Especially any time we go camping. “Now that’s a fire!”

Cole Jennett

Ashton was great. Loved him in these movies and in MIDNIGHT RUN (which is one of my all-time favorite films). RIP.

Stick Figure Studios

MIDNIGHT RUN is one of my all-time favorite films and was one of the five picks I submitted when I won trivia night.

Stick Figure Studios

Yup. A highly enjoyable movie. Funny, thrilling and carried in no small part by the endless charm and charisma of Eddie Murphy. You can see why he became such a huge star. There are three more movies, the second of which is worth seeing (and yes, Taggart and Rosewood are in it and hilariously still acting like a married couple) but the third of which is not. It is truly awful. Skip 3 and go right to 4. Also, the director of this film Martin Brest (who also did MEET JOE BLACK and SCENT OF A WOMAN) directed another little buddy action-comedy from the 1980s, also starring John Ashton (the actor who played Taggart), that you might have heard of. You should also check it out. It's called MIDNIGHT RUN. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

She may have something to say about The Fifth Element previously being #1😉

Cole Jennett

You see Cassie, this was a really good movie. So glad you liked it as much as so many of us did. We really wouldn't put a bad movie up as the #1 requested. Trust us! :) Not only is this movie a good comedy, and a great action movie, it has a real rockin soundtrack, one of the best of the 80's! Judge Reinhold was really better in this movie than he was in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Can't wait for Cassie to watch the sequel to this one!

MikeLL

Two other movies you would like. "Bowfinger" (1999) with Murphy and Steve Martin. Running Scared (1986) Buddy Cop film with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.

TheSingulatarian

Eddie Murphy early standup (profane, popular, groundbreaking -- could be offensive to some) was awesome: --DELIRIOUS (1983). The album release won Best Comedy Album at the 1984 Grammy Awards. Used the words f*ck 230 times and shit 171 times. In 1996, he released a statement apologizing for his use of the word f*ggot. You can watch DELIRIOUS (1983) for free on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3aTHXj7u4 --RAW (1987). The highest-grossing stand-up comedy concert film ever released, making $50.5 million in the United States and Canada.

Clay F

There is something special about Murphy. BHC isn’t my fav however, the dining table scene with all his characters in the nutty professor still ranks as the funniest thing Ive ever seen.

Brett John Chase

This is the first watch where I noticed a DeLorean out in front of Victor's house halfway through.

Brian's Dog

I’m not sure why, but 48 hours didn’t work for me. I had expected it to be much funnier when I watched it a few years ago.

Cole Jennett

I watched 48 hours a few years back, and I don’t think it will give Cassie the same vibes. It was more serious, less comedy, and I thought Nick Nolte was kinda unlikable in it. I felt it was definitely more dated than BHC. I don’t see it going nearly so well.

Cole Jennett

You liked Eddie Murphy’s demeanor and his adopted buddies Billy and Taggart. So did I. I liked the movie better than I remember. I am glad you liked it. Eddie Murphy is a comedic genius. 48 Hrs. (1982) If you want another 80’s Murphy movie, react to 48 Hrs. (1982) [RT=92%]. His first movie. 2 years before BHC. My favorite Eddie Murphy 80s movie after Trading Places. Admittedly, I have nostalgia. My friends and I at 19 in 1982 loved 48 Hrs. A more noir feel than BHC. Great interaction w/his ‘buddy’ (a cop) played by Nick Nolte (e.g., the dad in Cape Fear). One of the most commercially successful films of 1982. Received widespread acclaim from critics. Murphy received Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. BHC Sequels Skip the BHC sequels (cash grabs). You said you want more of Billy and Taggart, but the sequels are not worth it. If you must, do BHC2, but for the love of God and all that is holy, please skip BHC3 which is horrible. IMDB 7.4, RT 82%, RT Audience 82% -- BHC (1984) IMDB 6.6, RT 48%, RT Audience 58% -- BHC2 (1987) IMDB 5.5, RT 11%, RT Audience 35% -- BHC3 (1994) Rank at popcornrequests. --48 Hrs. (1982) – No. 117 --BHC2 – No. 156 --BHC3 – No. 1931

Clay F

Cassie you are going to make me watch this again because I can't resist. You are to good.

Rick Williams

This extra butter Live was so much fun. I like the new format, watching it on Patreon instead of going through YouTube.

Doc Larry

Eddie’s best song was Hot Tube Party on SNL.

Ted Whalen

We were on our way back from the Cubs game on Friday and we were racing to get back. We knew you watching this. My friends tried to get on our tablet. Through our Wi-fi connect I couldn't remember my login. My friend asked what's she watching? BH Cop I told him. He was like not part 2? We almost got started but knowing we would be laughing so hard we would have to pull over we got shut down. BH Cop II I am telling you. Every time we think about it we are laughing so hard we are crying.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

The blend between Drama, Action and Comedy is perfect in Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie Murphy’s performance was terrific and he had a natural quality about him that seemed to make the Axel Foley character believable. Not many actors could pull off the “Ramone” bit and then 10 seconds later be believable as a calm, cool and collected Badass. This Badass persona was first seen in Murphy’s film debut 2 years earlier, when he was just 21 years old… 48 Hrs. (1982), an Action Comedy, starring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. A lot of the success and genre melding of Beverly Hills Cop has to also be attributed to the director, Martin Brest. You’ve already seen 2 of his films… Scent of a Woman (1992) & Meet Joe Black (1998), which had some genre melding going on as well. Two more important Martin Brest films to see are… Going in Style (1979), a “Grumpy Old Men” type of Comedy Heist film, starring George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg. & Midnight Run (1988), another Action Comedy in the “Beverly Hills Cop” style, starring Robert DeNiro, Charles Grodin and John Ashton. PS: I’m down with watching Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), which was directed by Tony Scott, who also directed… Top Gun (1986) Days of Thunder (1990) True Romance (1993) Crimson Tide (1995) Enemy of the State (1998) Man on Fire (2004) Deja Vu (2006) Unstoppable (2010) All seen by you. (According to your Letterboxd ;-) Tony Scott also directed some other films that you haven’t seen, which I’m sure you will love, including… Spy Game (2001), a Spy Thriller starring Brad Pitt and Robert Redford. So yeah… Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) is in pretty good company. :-)

Larry Darrell

Loved BHC. Second one was good, but nothing like the first one. Still say 48 hrs is Eddie's best and funniest movie 🍿.

Bill Maurer

Nice Cassie 😃 Now do Wargames, Who framed Roger rabbit? and The blues brothers. 😉😉😉

Björn Karlsson

Is Beverly Hills Cop good enough to watch twice in one weekend? Hell yes! Loved the live watch along, I had a lot of fun. So I’ll be closing out my weekend with a re-watch. The Heat is On…again!

Dan M

My night is complete! I actually do like part II more, I think it's funnier. Also has anyone mentioned how this script was originally written with Sylvester Stallone in mind, however he wanted it more hard-core action. In comes Murphy and comedic gold. Subsequently Stallone used that idea he had for Cobra another fave of mine.

JohnnyUtah

Glad you liked it! John Ashton who played Taggart just passed away recently, shortly after doing the 4th Cop movie. Another buddy cop (esque) movie he's in that you'd really like is Midnight Run (1988)! It's been highly requested, so I hope and think it'll happen soon. Also hope we can get to Rush Hour some time this year.

Shehab Dawoud

Cassie, please feel free to take your time before watching BHC 2. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I’d suggest waiting many months, even years. Maybe pencil it in for 2055. I should be dead by then.

Just Plain Bob

Fun little Eddie Murphy fact: He's actually a really good singer, too. "Party All the Time" (1985) is a song by Eddie Murphy, written and produced by Rick James. It was released just a year after Beverly Hill Cop. I'm not sure how everyone else was introduced to this song, but I first heard it thanks to Grand Theft Auto V (2013), since it played on the in-game radio. I had no idea it was the same Eddie Murphy until I looked it up! Speaking of music. The theme for Beverly Hill Cop "Axel F" was composed by Harold Faltermeyer, who also did the soundtrack for The Running Man (1987), along with the Top Gun Anthem for Top Gun, among other's as well. The Running Man being a personal favourite soundtrack of mine. Everyone has sampled or covered Axel F, including Crazy Frog, which is probably how I first heard the song growing up. That music video is burned into my memory as a wee 2000s baby. I'm pretty sure Danny Elfman, composer for almost all Tim Burton films (including Batman ’89 and Returns), as well as the Sam Rami's Spider-Man trilogy and frontman for the '80s band Oingo Boingo, also did some work on the movie's soundtrack as well. Can't forget his Pee-wee's Big Adventure soundtrack as well, Elfman's influence seems to be everywhere.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I'm so happy you finally watched Eddie Murphy at his best. He lost something (his genuine, authentic & charming type of acting) somewhere around Boomerang. And he hasn't been the same since, IMO. The Nutty Professor movies were totally fun and entertaining, don't get me wrong, but his acting in these 80s films were some of his best work, IMO. Please watch part 2 tomorrow. kthanksbye!

Philip Alan

Favorite Eddie Murphy film, along with 48 Hrs.

Sadly he changes his laugh in the 4th one. He got self conscious about it.
