The Fly (1986) - Full Reaction

I lost it when she shoots him and his head explodes. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a horror movie before lol

Finally decided to give this one a watch and see if Cassie puked. Almost! 🤣

I know your October schedule is probably booked but another film with a tragic transformation is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde from 1941 starring Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman. It was very well made for the time and is completely character driven. I first saw it a few years ago and was amazed at what i was experiencing. Tracy and Bergman were at the peak of their careers and the scenes with the two of them are electric with intensity and left me captivated 80 years later. I think it would be a really good watch along with Carly. I know you would enjoy it!

I'm not a fan of most horror movies, as I feel they are more akin to amusement park rides. "Cheap and fleeting thrills with no lasting satisfaction", to put it lightly. But this one really stands out amongst those lesser works, and is comparable to John Carpenter's "The Thing" in quality and lasting impression. I think the thing that best helps set this apart from so many other, equally gruesome-horror movies, is that Cronenberg knew to first show the audience a pair of genuine & heartfelt lead characters living their normal everyday lives, getting us invested enough in wanting to continue watching them live their normal lives for the whole movie if need be, only to afterwards spring upon us the horrific and grotesque circumstances that would befall them. What may be the weirdest thing about David Cronenberg's "The Fly" for me, however, is that I ended up seeing the sequel to it first (and as a kid of 11 or 12!) long before I had the chance to see this one. I don't know that it particularly changed my viewing experience of the first movie all that much, but seeing The Fly 2 right as I was on the cusp of puberty did help to amplify the crush I had on Daphne Zuniga after seeing her in Spaceballs.

That was fun! Maybe I'm a little sick and sadistic, but I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. When I think back, I have to say Cassie has come a long way. I can't think of many other horror movies that would bother her this much, outside of some torture horror. And there are a few horror movies that are a little scarier and have a bit more shock value, but I'm not even going to mention them because everybody will attack me, and I know she has said she won't ever watch them. But there is another E movie, which I have never heard her comment on. The Evil Dead remake, which I thought was really good, and I usually hate remakes.

The Substance wouldn't have been possible without Cronenberg, the granddaddy of body horror.

First time watch for me, and this was a lot of fun! I was fine with the gross-ness but can’t handle the loose teeth/fingernail stuff. They did the same in The Substance and I had to cover my eyes then too.
