The guy who went to visit Erwin in prison is named Nile Dok. In the manga there is a bit more backstory about him and Erwin. They were/are friends that went through training together. During that training they both fell in love with the same girl, named Marie, who worked at a bar. They each started pursuing a relationship with her but Erwin gave up to instead focus on proving his father's theory about the outside world right. That's why he joined the Scouts. He gave his blessing to Nile to continue courting the girl and eventually they became a couple and got married and had kids. So when Erwin is asking Nile about Marie and the kids he is reminding him of their friendship but also reminding himself of what could of been but never was due to Erwin's obsession with proving that his father was right. That and trying to absolve himself of the guilt he feels over his father's death by chasing that goal. Proving that his dad was right is a major motivating drive for Erwin because he is strongly haunted by his father's death. Lastly, if you remember back in S3 - E2 the head of the interior police that Hange and Levi are torturing talks about all the people he had to kill to keep peace behind the walls. He talks about a teacher who knew to much. That was Erwin's dad!!! The couple trying to run off in a hot air balloon were Armin's mom and dad. The manga covers that but not in the show sadly. And lastly, the woman who had an illegitimate child with the true royal family is of course Historia's mom. He sent over Kenny to kill her because Kenny is working with the interior police as we know now.
