These episodes are the ones that really solidified Makishima as one of my favorite anime villains of all time. He's got a lot of similarities with Light Yagami, if Light didn't really think he was really brining justice. Like Light, he's brilliant and idealistic, but he doesn't delude himself about his true nature - Light is a tyrant that wishes for good while doing evil, meanwhile Makishima doesn't care about good or evil, only freedom, and he enables the worst in humanity to actively challenge the system. Oh, and as for the "Chief" - the brain is in the body, it's a full conversion cyborg like the hunter, but even higher quality. When trying to figure out the appearance, Makishima ruled out surgery and the "Chief" told him what they were. The link they connected to just lets them rejoin the network, it's plugging in the Ethernet cable to get on the network. So yeah, he's toast, Makishima killed him and even asked him if he was afraid of death after attaining the perspective of God.

2025-08-29 01:08:25 +0000 UTCMan I love Shogo makishima. Perfectly written imo. Also the part about Ai, is factual. Most companies developing AI are aiming for super artificial intelligence. We would essentially be like a plant compared to that kind of being. Not to mention Ai can also no doubt be used to create Biological weapons, and no doubt probably improve them too. Especially if it’s a super intelligence. So yeah, the future is pretty terrifying. Best strategy? Try not to think about it. My advice? Be nice to your toaster, you might be the bread next.

This anime is so good and Makishima is one of the best and well written villains in anime of all time. Excited for the finale next week.
