2025-09-15 13:22:44 +0000 UTCWell ... the change in her state of mind ... wasnt bad per se ... but I hoped they would make it more like in the book - when she calmly and slowly scratched the skin and flesh off of her face with a comment "my face kinda itches today heh" The anime really suffers from rushing through the plot ... many interractions rushed through without explanation and/or context almost needed to understand it ... or flat out skipped the info altogether

From her flashbacks, it looks like what Lavenus (that scumbag) did, was woo her, then impregnate her (she was pregnant before the ritual), then abuse her so she would resent him, then make it so that all that resentment (along with the negative emotions of the industrial revolution period itself) caused the 'baby' to grow. As the one carrying a being that saps her of her resentment, this legitimately broke her mind, because now even though she knows intuitively that she should resent him, she still spoke fondly of him because all her resentment for him was taken away by the baby. Truly the most horrible situation, both physically and psychologically to put someone through. Along with the main villain, Lavenus is utterly irredeemable.
