His name is Sakata Gintoki, Gintama is just the name of the show. Like Ichigo Kurosaki in the show Bleach. Gintama just happens to be close to Gintoki's name in this case. - As you know, Gin Tama = Silver Soul. - Tama literally means ball and can be used to refer to balls, jewels, soul, luck, etc. - Kintama colloquially means testicles/balls/nuts. - Tamashi literally means soul/spirit. Puns/wordplay based on the title frequently comes up so hopefully these common definitions help!
