The intent is to keep you guessing, it always is with the mystery childhood friend trope. This title does a better job of it than most, lots of hints either way. Some LN readers think they can spoil it. But you can't count on adaptation not to change things up in order to make an ending for a source that is still ongoing.

She probably has bittersweet feelings about how her knight in shining armor is the guy her younger sister likes, but she seems to accept it. She also knows that he can speak and understand Russian.

She has a picture of him, so her memory is accurate, plus she is older. He doesn’t even remember her name. So I do think that’s her. She remembers because she appears to be in love with him and knew it. He was very close to her like a very best friend and maybe in love but didn’t know it as he is younger. I bet she is at least on year older and we know girl mature earlier than boys.
