Personally, I wouldn't consider Housen's behavior childish.

I always saw it as a metaphor for Kagura constantly fighting to change her Yato nature, as opposed to someone like Housen, who was fully corrupted by his Yato blood. Kagura's tolerance to the sun also works as an allegory for her development as a person. Then you have Housen who childishly hid and ran away from even attempting to change. Hiding away from the sun brought his tolerance levels down to far below that of the average Yato.
