The Goonies (1985) - Commander Exclusive Bonus Episode

Hey you guys! 1985 season is upon us, and you know what that means? It means it's our time. Our time to watch The Goonies.

This is a film that Rob and Dave love so much that they couldn't risk its inclusion on a public vote. A film about friendships, childhood, and adventure, and plugged in to a specific nostalgia for a specific time, when no adults seemed to be watching, and wherever you wanted to be most in the world was only a BMX ride away.

Also, we do some weird talk about food pipelines and chicken oviducts, which I think it's best for everyone that we never mention again.

The giant octopus made an appearance in The Goonies ZX Spectrum game. 5 year old me never could get past it.

I won't rewatch this film becaaaause I'm afraid of the feelings Rob expressed -- theres a nostalgia for it that I don't want to ruin 😝 Amusingly, I was WILDLY against watching Stranger Things because the main cast was kids, and then someone described it to me as "ET meets Goonies meets X Files" and I couldn't resist that recommendation.

On the lab-grown meat thing: there was a TV special comedy mockumentary where, sadly, Gregg Wallace, who's had a public and despicable fall from grace, investigates meat grown from human tissue. There's a whole section where they end up testing out meat grown from kids because it's the most tender and there's a bunch of children getting grabbed and scraped for tissue samples - very funny and worth a watch if you can stomach Gregg Wallace.

Speakimng of pre-football match things that were not the main event, the yrear after this was released. my OH and I were one of a bunch of 100+ viking reenactors doing a battle at Hampden before an Old Firm Cup Final. Boy, the cops were somewhat perplexed and worried.
