In the film the male protag Paul Atreides, is given an ordeal by the Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit nuns, a group who have developed their psychic power and wield it to create their version of order in the universe, often through violence and intrigue. Placing his hand in the box causes the nerves to be stimulated to the point that he feels his hand and arm are on fire, an illusion magnified by the Mother through telepathy. To counteract his instinct to withdraw his hand Paul recites the Litany Against Fear over and over. I imagined postulants (Latex nuns!) submitting to the ordeal in order to gain acceptance into the BG order. Lots of possibilities to act out the ritual, perhaps only one passes the ritual but rescues the other as she starts to give in to the illusion, etc etc. It just occurred to me in the context of your idea about Latex nuns.
