He did try using the power to control Titans at least once earlier in season 3 against Rod Reiss (who was a pure Titan, albeit an abnormal, at the time), but he wasn't able to.

That's a spoiler. (SPOILER ALERT!) They haven't connected the Coordinate to the powers of the Reiss family yet.

They did address the Founding Titan's powers (The Coordinate) in season 3 part 1, I'm surprised you forgot about this, because they did emphasize on why the coordinate was so special, it was the main focus of s3 p1. Not only it can fully control all titans, that power can erase memories from the people to the extent of having an entire civilization forget everything, also with the power of the Founding Titan all the walls Maria, Rose and Sina were built. In the Reiss family, the possessor of the Foundation Titan was always considered a god, just like Rod Reiss said. And the reason why Eren can not use the full extent of it's powers is because he doesn't have royal blood, this was also explained by Rod Reiss. That is exactly why Eren doubts himself so often, after learning that truth, he realized he was never "special" like he thought he was when he discovered his titan powers. Up to this episode, Eren and the Survey Corps still haven't figured out why Eren was able to weild the power of The Coordinate only one time in the finale of season 2.

btw the coordinate ability can only be used by someone who possesses royal blood ie Reiss family. What Annie did was just scream at the titans to come and eat her it was not full control. As for the beast titan and how Eren used the coordinate once without having royal blood it will be explained in future episodes so it’s ok not to know now

I love that we get Rieners perspective. They could just flat out tell you the scouts plan and whats going on, however we're learning about whats happening along with Reiner, and getting his side of things.

About the titan control power, they addressed it when Rod Reise turned into that giant titan. Eren cannot control that power and can't command them at will. The reason why he could've done it at the end of season two will be explained in later episodes. Just keep this question in mind, you'll get the answers :)
