Jester Cards, yes or no?
Added 2019-07-21 13:25:27 +0000 UTCSo I introduced Jester Cards on Friday and the feedback on it has been positive on Patreon. However it's been negative in other places of the internet. That's why I wanted to talk to you to get your feedback.
1) What are Jester Cards?
Monthly ingame rewards given to Patrons depending on their pledge. More info here.
2) Is it a good idea or not?
While it's meant as a reward for the different tiers of Patrons, some see it as a tactic / gimmick to make more money of people that otherwise weren't interested in pledging a (higher) amount.
On top of that, the system is compared to lootboxes. Something that's been hated in the gaming industry for a long time. Even though they are not lootboxes, I won't deny that the presentation of it makes it seem like they are.
3) What's your opinion?
All in all, it's left me with an uneasy feeling. Which is why I'm reaching out to you. Are Jester Cards a good idea in your mind? Should they be changed or removed entirely? Perhaps you have your own ideas for different tier rewards.
Any and all thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

As a house contractor would put it : You don't sell the housing before the house is done.

2019-07-27 19:37:54 +0000 UTCCheat codes to get things easier is alright, but don't be afraid to put larger storylines in the game as a way to get the outfits. For example, if you make one decision in a storyline, you get a specific outfit but if you do something else you get a diffrent outfit. If you do that, then the cards would be perfect for getting all the outfits in one run.

2019-07-27 18:37:11 +0000 UTCI feel like giving certain tiers access to cheat codes is a good enough facsimile for what it sounds like.

2019-07-22 18:39:01 +0000 UTCGiven that it's all going to be free at the end. The jester card system is just a simple tiny perk for the patrons that help fund the project. Stick to just to sexy outfits one update in advance, and no story / scenes lock out. That's not very scummy in my opinion, but there's always going to be a few people that complain that everything is not free immediately.
2019-07-22 15:39:52 +0000 UTCI like it. Honstely to me this is not a loot box becuase as the developer you brought it to out attention as to what you were doing. You'r not doing this at the last minute nor are you locking people out of content because were different tiers. You shouldent feel uneasy about your game and what direction you want to take it in.

2019-07-22 11:23:10 +0000 UTCThe convenience stuff sounds dangerous, if you make that then you will also, consciously or not, make it affect how you think of your game and how you design it. I think that you will start making the game grindier, and think "well that is not a problem since I have all these convenience items for my patrons" That is a slippery slope, the rest of it sounds fine. The convenience stuff might give a boost short term, but might hurt you long term.

2019-07-22 10:25:35 +0000 UTCFrom how i understand it it's just a form of early access right?, let people who pay more get it early i'm fine paying $3 and getting the content later plus people who are paying more are going to be more likely to find the bugs sooner

2019-07-22 03:10:25 +0000 UTCPersonally I don't see the issue with it. It's just a nice little extra for the people who do pledge that everyone will eventually get when the game has a it's full release. Not mention that it's not like anything major is blocked off like areas, rooms or sexy times. Having said that I am not married to the idea of Jester Cards either so I am very open to other suggestion people might have (I don't have any of my own at the moment). I would ask if all the people who dislike the cards from other websites made any suggestion if they are so against it. Not suggestion that just say "oh let your work speak for it's self", that's just sounds like people wanting everything that pledgers get but for free. The one suggestion I actually do have right now is maybe just makes the items available earlier for $1 tiers, like maybe every 3-4 months instead of waiting for the That is all have for now but if I have something to add I will be sure to post it here.

2019-07-21 22:36:54 +0000 UTCI was initially against the idea, but after your clarification that everyone can get it, I don't really mind anymore. I will say that it is a lot more content for you to make (which is always nice) so I just hope the high expectations don't burn you out.
2019-07-21 22:05:29 +0000 UTCI'd like to point out that the people complaining haven't fully read the purpose behind the cards. It is an early access option, nothing gets fully locked behind it. As such there shouldn't be any real issue with a game that is being worked on and will be released later for free.
2019-07-21 20:50:46 +0000 UTCMy thought on higher tiers would be looking back at orange trainer and seeing what worked there, if you liked what happened there, continue it. if not attempt another avenue.
2019-07-21 20:48:28 +0000 UTCIt will be available for all patrons, just not immediately. just hold your horses and be patient.
2019-07-21 20:47:03 +0000 UTCIMVHO you should reward all your supporters and maybe gift higher tiers with a more detailed picture or?

2019-07-21 19:52:43 +0000 UTCWhy not just... Make that planned content as an inclusion in the updates for ALL patrons?

2019-07-21 19:48:32 +0000 UTCPeople support the game all the same, but if introducing the JCards encourage others to support your games then go for it. In the end you will decide what gets put into each month's content based on what your artists can produce. Keep up the great work.

2019-07-21 16:28:43 +0000 UTCEhhh from my view it really doesn't seem like an issue, especially considering that everything becomes available anyway. Kinda seems like a case of people wanting free stuff immediately and not liking that others will get it before them because some people choose to support you more.

2019-07-21 16:13:03 +0000 UTCIt's an awful lot of content for you to create. I think you'll burn out if you try.
