That's kinda why I haven't watched this in a while. A bunch of movies from this time period really traumatized us as kids. So, some movies I'd prefer not to have that experience again. Because, damn, this was really well done.

2024-07-21 09:34:28 +0000 UTCThis film is just a classic! Everything is done so well, the cinematography, music, acting, characters and effects. The puppeteer on ET still look so good, right up there with Jim Henson's work. You just know that if they made this film now ET would just be CGI and it could be good like the Planet Of The Apes films but nothing beats the real thing though. I love that throughout most of the film you never see any adults faces aside from the mother and then later on when E.T is found. Like you are seeing the world through ET. And I love that Peter Coyote is credited as Keys and the fact that the character doesn't have a real name, it's not done very often but I get a kick out of it every time. But I love that they did throw a little curveball with his character, you really do think that he's going to be the big bad guy but no, I think they had landed before and he saw them as a child or he has always believed in them and now he knows they were real. It actually makes sense as to why he was looking for him so much. A few fun facts: Most of the full-body puppetry was performed by a 2'10" tall stuntman but the scenes in the kitchen were done using a 12 year old boy who was born without legs and was an expert on walking on his hands. And originally they wanted M&M's for Elliot to lure ET with but was denied because they thought ET would frighten children so they had to "settle" for Reese's Pieces and afterward Reese's Pieces sales skyrocketed and it influenced other brands to allow films to use their products more. I always loved that they used Reese's Pieces because I love them, lol.
