2025-07-29 01:21:03 +0000 UTCWhat a crazy notification to see. Clannad has consistently been my all time favorite anime for I’d say like 8 years or so. It’s a genuine masterpiece in my mind and, hilariously, one of the few shows I have basically never rewatched because I KNOW it would fuck me up. It was the first anime to ever make me cry and I remember my highschool friends hyping up Angel Beats as this peak emotional anime, but that show barely affected me after the gut punch of having just finished Clannad. Of course I’ve gotten more emotionally vulnerable over the years so even Angel Beats can get me a little now, which is exactly why I am terrified of ever rewatching Clannad. It would ruin me, lol. Clannad is a truly unique show though. The first season is a relatively standard lates 2000’s slice of life anime, although good for the genre. It’s got a couple powerful emotional moments, but nothing that crazy. Where the series becomes that true 10/10 masterpiece is the second season, After Story. It does something unheard of for a slice of life anime. It has the characters graduate highschool, gets jobs, and continue their lives. It is the story you never see in these shows. It’s so beautiful, so grounded, and, at times, so painful. I don’t know if there would be high interest in a reaction to this series, but I could not possibly recommend it more. In the hundreds of anime I have watched I have only 13 I currently rate a 10. Clannad: After Story has been there since the very beginning and remains at the top to this day. Even if it’s not a reaction, please consider watching it on your own time. There is just nothing else like After Story out there.
