The Quest-Failed series Behind the scenes

Around 2016 I had the idea for a series called the quest. This series was about a princess who was transformed into a male. The plot of the series was going to be about the quest the now prince goes on with one of the young knights of the kingdom. Over the course of the first season the Luke the prince and Thomas the knight would develop feelings for each other. Luke would no longer want to be a female and wish to remain male. Then in the second season they would have had to save the kingdom after the queen was overthrown. I only ever wrote two stories for this series, and quickly took it off afterdark.

Here is the first story of two

The quest: The Journey begins

Squire Thomas

“And for the last item of our meeting, Squire Thomas.” Queen Emily said looking around her table of knights. A much older knight stood.

“Your majesty, I would like to issue a report.” He spoke in a respectful manner.

“Go ahead, Sir Geoff.” The queen stated.

“The young squire still remains the most physically impressive of our squires, but since the death of his father his actions have become childish and at times even dangerous.” Sir Geoff spoke in a loud manner so all could hear.

“And what of his sword skill?” The queen asked intrigued.

“He has great skill, but does not follow proper sword technique, he has also recently taken up….” Sir Geoff began to report.

“That is enough Sir Geoff.” The queen interrupted. “That is all I need on the boy. You are all dismissed.” The knights got up leaving the room. The queen motioned to a small boy standing in the corner.  He walked forward kneeling in front of her.

“Oh that is not necessary young Jeremiah.” She spoke in a soft voice. “I need you to fetch Squire Thomas for me. The boy nodded and ran out of the room.

Thomas bathed in the lake washing himself with a small linen cloth. Dirt wiped off of his legs as he rubbed them with the cloth. He wrung out the small cloth over his head the water slowly dripping down his hair and onto his abs.

“Squire Thomas!” A voice interrupted his bath. Thomas looked over to see Jeremiah the queen’s young messenger. “Squire Thomas I have a message from the queen!” Thomas was mildly shocked and at the same time terrified, the last time the queen had called for his audience it was to inform him of his father’s death and to present him with his sword.

“Well, please deliver it.” Thomas spoke trying to keep the shakiness out of his voice.

“The queen wishes for your summons in the throne room right away.” Jeremiah said.

“Thank you Jeremiah. Inform her I’ll be right there.” Thomas grabbed for a cloth on the shore wrapping it around his waist as he got out of the water.

“Right away squire!” Jeremiah said cheerfully running off towards the palace. Thomas dried himself, putting on his clothes and grabbing his father’s sword.

The Quest

Thomas walked into the throne room shutting the door behind him. The room was surprisingly empty other than the queen herself.

“Squire Thomas, approach.” The queen spoke, and Thomas obeyed walking to the throne and kneeling before it.

“Your majesty.” He said in his most respectful tone.

“Squire Thomas, your father was the best knight I had, and from the day you were born he promised you would be better than even he was. Despite your childish and dangerous behavior you are the most psychically fit of the squires in this kingdom, and you are exactly who I need at this time.” The queen’s voice boomed in the empty hall. “Squire Thomas, I am going to entrust you to go on a quest of grave importance. If you succeed, I will grant you a place as a knight on my royal court.”

“If it is a matter of grave importance, why not one of the knights?” Thomas interrupted.

“It has come to my attention that there is a rat among the knights, at least one who is trying to stage coup to take me out of power.Your father was my most loyal knight, and I expect the trust I put in him I can put in you.”

“Yes, of course majesty.” Thomas agreed.

“Now on to the matter at hand, you were summoned here to take on a very important quest. You have met the princess before, correct?” The queen asked.

“Yes, I along with several other squires guarded her on a trip to your sister’s kingdom a few years back.” Thomas said.

“Excellent.” The queen sounded delighted. “Then you know how important to me she is.” She paused. “This morning as the princess was in her room a curse hit her causing my only child, my only daughter to transform into a male. That is where you come in squire. No wizard in our kingdom has the power to transform her back, but the witch of the evergleen would have the power needed.”

“You want me to go to the evergleen?” Thomas gulped. He had heard of the evergleen only in tales, it was a dark forest far off from the kingdom where it was rumored that angels died and the devil roamed free. Only one knight in the history of the kingdom had ever set foot in there and survived.

“Your father stepped foot in the forest and survived bringing triumph to the kingdom, and I know you can do the same, however; you shall not travel alone. The princess shall accompany you deep into the forest. You leave first thing in the morning.” The queen commanded.

“Yes your majesty.” Thomas said voice shaky. He began to walk out of the throne room.

“The princess shall be waiting in your home when you get there. Please squire take care of her.” The queen’s voice turned soft as Thomas walked away.

Luke…

Thomas walked into house, to a teenage boy sitting at his table. He had blond hair, with bright green eyes. Thomas instantly recognized the eyes as the princess, her new body was very different, the mild muscle on the new body and growth in height were the most noticeable differences. Thomas began to pack a knapsack full of items he thought they might need.

“You might want to get some sleep.” Thomas said as he packed up some bread. “It is going to be a long journey. You can sleep on my bed.” The boy nodded and lay on a bed in the edge of the room closing his eyes.

“Come on wake up.” Thomas said shaking the boy. He woke up yawning and rubbing his eyes.

“What’s going on...what's happening?” The boy spoke for the first time in a soothing yet manly voice that surprised Thomas.

“Uh…” Thomas snapped out of his state of surprise. “It's time to go, we need to leave before the guards at the gate switch out with the morning shift.” The boy got up stretching. Thomas handed him a knapsack before he was even done. “Follow me.” He said running out of the house.

“Hey!” The boy shouted running after.

The two walked towards the gates trying to avoid being seen. As the guards paid no attention as they approached.

“So what do I call you?” Thomas asked.

“You know my name, I am the p…” The boy started to say, but Thomas put a hand over his mouth.

“You’re not the princess anymore, look at yourself.” Thomas whispered. He took his hand off the boy’s mouth. They passed through the gates, and Thomas turned around looking at the boy. Thomas noticed instantly the tears forming in his eyes as the realization of what truly happened hit him.

“Shit.” Thomas thought. “Look, I’m sorry. I know what you are going through has to be rough, but you need to look forward, I promise on my father’s sword that I will get you back to whoever, and however you want to be, but for now you need to be strong.” Thomas said putting a hand on the boy’s shoulder. All the boy did was nod in return trying to hold back tears. “How about for now we call you...Luke?” Thomas proposed.

“Luke…” The boy said trying out the name. “ I like it.” His face brightened up instantly.

“Well Luke I think it's time we are on our way then.” Thomas said beginning to walk down the path leading away from the kingdom. Luke turned back looking at the kingdom with the castle in the center, the second he stepped through the gates he had been overwhelmed with a feeling of change, and he needed one last look at the place he called home.
