Podquisition Episode 85: Hosing Off The Anus

Please forgive the poor audio quality this week. Laura can't leave us alone for one minute...

Holly Green joins the crew to discuss Orion's shenanigans, shady sponsorship deals, and Fallout. Loads and loads of Fallout.

Oh, and poop stuff. Messy poop.

I think I'm -finally- starting to understand the complaints about Fallout 4 not being a 'roleplaying' game, and it's only taken me 450 hours to get here... It seems to me that if you play the game through as a heroic archetype you do feel like you're roleplaying it, and with the narrative unchallenged the world generally works with you instead of against you (standard Bethsoft NPC writing notwithstanding). It's really only when you start to go off-script and play a more devious or outright villainous character that the cracks start to show. Which explains why took me this long to grasp the criticism, because I -can't- stray far from the heroic archetype. Even when I set out to be the bad guy I just can't force myself to follow through, so I fall naturally back into the archetype which I (and the game) are most comfortable with. That said, I'm still flummoxed at the idea that Witcher 3 is some kind of roleplay standard-bearer. I've tried so, so, so hard to enjoy it but I just can't. I don't like 'being' Geralt; he's mopey, miserable and cynical in a way that I just can't adapt to. If that game allowed -any- kind of character roleplay I feel like I'd be able to find a niche that I was comfortable in after 40 hours of wishful thinking, but there's no room at all to not be Geralt.
